I'm used to the absence of my parents in my life. Since I was little, all they do is work, never letting me really know them. They've been travelling for work since last week, but even if they were here what difference would it make?

My house is big, and full of windows even if I don't understand why we live in such a big house if it's empty most of the time. My favorite place in this house is the forest that lies behind it. It's just the beginning (or maybe the end) of a huge forest in which I've grown used to spend my time in.

My bare feet touch the dead leaves that lies in the ground as I enter the forest. Every time I come here, I always breathe the fresh air that fills my lungs and relaxes me. Sometimes I just like to lie here and look at the trees as their leaves move with the wind, as the clouds come and go and I just relax completely.

There's something about being in the nature that just gives me something. I don't really know what it is, but I feel like it's some kind of hope, like in a second I believe that everything is going to be alright. That second doesn't last that long and soon I'm back to being numb.

I climb a rock as I sit on top of it looking at the trees and thinking of everything and nothing, like I use to.

I'm relaxed until my phone suddenly rings, bringing me back to reality.

"Why did I even bring this with me?" I mutter to myself, looking at the phone in my hands.

I don't really like having a phone. Last year, my parents decided to give me the newest IPhone, that really expensive one that everyone wants, that one that stops working as soon as they launch another one, even more expensive and 'better' this time. When they gave me that I got so mad that I threw it out of the window and saw their shocked faces as I heard it cracking downstairs.

It's funny how they think that they can suddenly replace years and years of just not being there for me with an fucking IPhone.

"Ocean?" I heard Sam say through the phone.

"Yeah, I'm here." I answered.

"You have to come to this party tonight!" Usual Sam. "It's gonna be a blast! Chad Matthews is hosting it!" She paused and breathed "Anyway are you coming? You can sleep here afterwards."

"Yeah ok" I said, thinking if I'd regret choosing this.

"See you later!"

I turned off my phone, silently realizing that agreeing to go to this party was a mistake. All I wanted to do right now was get under my covers and sleep like a baby.

But I wouldn't. I guess some part of me still had a little hope that one day my life wouldn't be as shitty as it already is. I took a big breath and started to walk towards my house.

I stared at my reflexion in the mirror, seeing the way that the green eyeshadow molded my different coloured eyes.

"I'm always gobsmacked by your eyes Ocean!" Sam suddenly said, looking at my reflexion in the mirror. "They're fucking wicked! In my next life I wanna be born with them too."

I laughed at her amazed expression. I liked to be different, to have one blue eye and one green. To have red hair, to be recognized by being different and not equal as every girl.

Even my name was unusual, and everyone seemed to insist in calling me Ocean even though my name is Oceanne. It's pronounced Oh-see-anne, but nobody seems to get that right.

I was putting my black crop top when Sam screamed "Look what I've found! This is brilliant!" She said while looking at something in her hands.

"Let me see it!" I said as she gave me the picture.

I laughed as I saw the picture she had taken of me a few days ago

I laughed as I saw the picture she had taken of me a few days ago. "I loved it Sam, thanks girl."

She laughed as she hugged me "This is what best mates are for!" She let go of me as she said "C'mon let's go! William is waiting for us outside."

William is her boyfriend, they've been together as long as I remember. I love them, but they can be a tad annoying sometimes.

We'd just arrived at the party and Sam had already gone somewhere with William. Brilliant.

I'd drank a little bit, not enough to lose control. I hate losing control.

One of my favorite songs started to boom through the speakers, and the second I heard it, I started to go to the dance floor dodging the masses of sweaty bodies grinding together.

My eyes where closed as I moved my body to the song, my hips loose as my head went backwards.

Near the end of the song, I felt something behind me. I turned around slowly and there he was. Valentine. The moment he saw me his lips pulled into a grin as he inched his face closer to mine, saying "I was looking for you, love"

I laughed, turned around and left the dance floor. Tonight will be an interesting night.
