While walking through the graveyard on a cold night, I tripped over a fresh mound of soil from a recent burial. I felt someone watching me as I got up slowly, looking around. My heart was beating so hard, I thought it would jump out of my chest. I knew something bad would happen if I didn't get out of here. Looking around once more, I started heading to the exit, but only got a few feet before I saw the gate. It was closed. I ran as fast as I could and started shaking the gate trying to open it when suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I screamed, knowing it was the end. I turned around to face death in the eye. As I turned around, my brother began to heave out a loud laugh.
"I got you good man!" he says laughing his head off.
"Knock it off! They're after me and there is no way to stop them!" I knew it sounded crazy. I knew he thought I was insane, but I also knew the ... thing after me wouldn't care who I was with. It would still kill me. I looked behind my brother and saw it. A few feet away was the essence of my nightmares. Black, soulless eyes staring at me looking into my soul, finding each and every one of my irrational fears. It smiled, black, cracked lips splitting to reveal jagged teeth made of what seemed to be glass, but I don't want to get close enough to check. I screamed. Backing into the gate, and my brother started backing away from me, glancing around to see what caused my screaming. Did he not see it? Did he not feel the hate coming from the thing? He was backing straight into it!
Slow, silent steps carried it closer, and it seemed like the temperature was dropping. My heart started to pick up even more in fear. The thing, sensing my emotions, walked a bit faster, as if excited. It made no noise as it glided across the ground, it's black eyes never leaving mine. It reached my brother first but went straight through him, and he fell to the ground.
"TYLER!" I screamed, and he groaned. Thank goodness he's alive! I thought, But I couldn't go to him. The thing was slowly coming towards me, and it didn't seem fazed it just knocked out my brother. My mouth went dry, and my knees were shaking. The thing stopped about two feet away from me and slowly raised it's arm, with a finger pointing at me, at my heart. I tried looking away, but those eyes held me captive.
It reached with the finger, and that moment seemed to last forever.
"Please," I begged in a whisper. But the thing didn't stop. There was a wicked glint in its eyes as it touched my chest right where my heart was. I felt a searing pain radiating from that one spot before my heart stopped, and everything went black.
A/N: I got this as a writing assignment from my creative writing teacher, two other people helped, so credit to them. Hope you liked it! : )
