Chapter 1 Orphanage of Ashes

August 23, 1999, Young Theo

Theo James sighed, and sank into his seat. Him and his parents were on their way home from a Parent-Teacher Conference meeting in their 1999 Crown Victoria, and it was the most boring one of his life. His parents weren't happy when they learned he had nearly failed English.

"We are most disappointed in you, Theo," His dad said. "You, an aspiring detective, almost failed English!"

Ugh thought Theo. Why can't they just let that GO!

They rounded a corner. The car stopped dead when they saw the orphanage. Theo's mother gasped and his dad went "Oh. My. God." Theo sat up and looked out the window at where Aunt Neely Orphanage is. What he saw wasn't a happy normal orphanage, but an orphanage engulfed in flames. Theo watched in horror as orange flames bounced against the darkening sky. Even through the rolled-up window, Theo could hear the screams of pure agony and terror of little children.

Theo's dad turned into the orphanage's parking lot. "We gotta see if people are in there!" He yelled. He parked in the nearest space and turned off the car.

"Are you INSANE?" asked Theo. "There is no way you're gonna get out of there!"

"Maybe," His dad replied, getting out of the car.
Theo's mom just sighed and followed him. Theo watched as they ran towards the burning building. It didn't take long before he heard his mom scream followed by insane laughter.

Theo quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped out of the car. He turned around to see his dad running and yelling "Start the car qui-". His words were cut off as a thin blade poked out of his chest.Dark red blood flew out of his mouth as he screamed in pure agony. Theo covered his mouth in horror as the blade pulled up through his dad's head. He fell to his knees as his father's body fell to the ground, dark pink brain falling from his skull. Theo looked up to see a smiling teen in a black jacket with a red tie.

"I hope you learned your lesson," Snarled the stranger, sheathing his rapier. "Stay away!"

Theo looked down at his father's bleeding body, horrified by the wound. He looked back up, but the stranger had disappeared...
