Here goes nothing
"So Ms. Lynch, can you tell us a little a bit about yourself?" Mr. Rodriguez asks from across the table. I am sitting the end of the table with him and 4 other executives surrounding.
I thought all I had to do was submit my resume with my job application!
"I graduated from John Hopkins University yesterday. I attended the school with a full ride scholarship because of my academic grades. I aced the ACT and SAT. I have also —" I am saying but then I was cut off by a brunette-haired, young woman with too much make up.
"We don't want to listen to your life story, we want to hear if you have experience. What degree did you receive, and in what field? We want to know what you have done for the community. We don't care what college you graduated from, sorry." She finishes.
Ahhh I'm so screwed...
"Keep going, please," asks a middle-aged woman with red, short hair and cute freckles.
"I received a medical degree in midwifery and psychology. In my last two year of attending the university, my class went to a village to help women that were rape victims, walking them through the stages of pregnancy, what to expect, and if they wanted, abortion. I performed a few C-Sections and saved a few babies from mere death. After we put away our temporary clinic, we built stable, permanent maternity homes and set up a building for support and supplies for the village women." I finished.
Everyone was taking notes in their thin, black binders as I waited anxiously for the results. They were mumbling to each other, nodding, whispering, all the other words that could describe my currently awkward situation.
"Congrats, you got the job, but you're going to start out as a nurse before you're promoted, that's if, you can show us what you can do within three months time." An old man with streaks of grey in his hair.
"Thank you! I won't disappoint!" I exclaim with sheer joy.
"Your salary is $20 an hour, 7 hours a day. Your day-offs are on Sundays and Thursdays. Sound good?" Asked a slightly younger man with hair that was obviously dyed brown. But I couldn't say that or else I might cost myself the job I just got.
"Sounds amazing, thank you for the opportunity! When will I start?" I ask in earnest and sheer curiosity.
"You'll start within 2 weeks. We have to get all your paper work in, and we already hired ten more people and the paper work has to be processed through the computer and to the government. Sorry for the delay, but you'll be working soon. Don't worry. The time will pass by quickly." The middle aged woman informs me.
"Oh..." I simply comment.
"Do you have a problem with that?" The young brunette remarks at me with a malicious glare and an eyebrow raised.
"No of course not! I was just surprised." I quickly cover up my mistake.
'Of course I have a problem! I need to pay for this month's rent!' I thought to myself.
"I'll be going now, thank you!" I say with a small smile, and walk out of the office, closing the door lightly.
I let out a deep breath. What am I going to do? I can't possibly make money out of thin air! I need to find another job in the mean time...
I walk out of the hospital and head towards my apartment. From my peripheral vision, I saw a cafe. And do you know what the cafe sign said?
HELP WANTED!!
My life, has never lit up this much, I quickly change into some formal, yet casual clothes, place my hair into a clean ponytail and head towards the cafe, which was relatively close to where I live. It was extremely convenient and... I was amazed by the decor of the building. My breath was taken away when I saw my first impression of just the door. From a far view, you wouldn't notice the tiny details that were engraved into the window. It looked expensive, but it was so pretty, that I doubt anyone could even think of breaking it. I place my hand over the glass, feeling every bump and dip of the window as my eyes scan the small fairies, flowers, butterflies, and birds that were magnificently carved. There was a clear rainbow and the sun that let you look into the cafe. I grab the handle of the oak door and pull it open.
The ring of the bell rings through as it announces to everyone with it's signature chime that a new customer has arrived. The wooden floor was also made of oak and there were some scruffs from the old fashioned chairs and tables that were strategically, yet ever-so-casually placed around the interior of the cafe. The heavenly smell of the cafe made me smile. The lights hung from the ceiling down. I wonder how anyone could have made this little shop, but it felt like a welcoming house, unlike mine... But whoever made this cafe, I have to thank because I live so close to it.
"Ma'am? Do you need anything? Are you lost? Are you okay?" A waitress named Ruby asks me with worry filling her face.
"Oh yes! Sorry. I must have looked lost because of the way I was looking around huh?" I chuckle nervously when I realize how stupid I must have looked as I mentally face-palm myself. "Name's Hazel by the way." I say, sticking my hand out to shake her hand, only to have it slightly graze over her chest... "Oh my god! I am so sorry! I swear I didn't mean to. It was an accident I swear I am not a pervert." I begin rambling as she starts laughing so hard her face turns as red as a tomato.
"Oh wow...I have never met a person with a better first impression." She manages to say after gathering herself. "Name's Ruby, but you might already know that by looking at my name tag huh? Well what can I get for you?" She asks me with her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Oh, umm... I meant to ask the manager if I could get a job... I saw the Help Wanted sign and came in to see if I could get a job." I ask as my voice gets lower and lower as my confidence level shrinks with my social skills that are dwindling down by the millisecond.
"Well, fix your personality while I get my mom. We like people who can look sociable, not people who are introverts." She says as she turns on her heel and walks into the kitchen.
She didn't have to be that blunt... I pout.
I sit on a chair next to the counter, hearing the kitchen door open fast and wide as a medium-sized woman with slightly messed up hair, and red cheeks with beads of sweat forming at her forehead.
"How may I help you, young miss?" She asks with a large huff of breath.
"Oh, I wanted to know if I could get hired?" I ask with confidence riding in my voice. Ruby stands behind her mother nodding her head in approval at my tone. The woman gives me a once over, grabs my cheeks, turns my head, left, then right.
"Hmm...." She thinks to herself. "You are hired!"
"Really?" I ask in utter surprise.
"Does it look like I am joking?" She asks in all seriousness.
"When can I start?"I ask earnestly.
"How about tomorrow? Salary is $10 an hour, 30 hours a week. You should work from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The pay is weekly and you have two day offs. Sound good?" She asks.
I nod my head earnestly "Yes, thank you!"
"For now, just order some coffee from that young man over there, and then relax." She tells me and I do so.
Sorry there isn't much action, but there is soon! I promise!! I have a few chapters written, but in the process of editing! But I'll try to update as soon as I can, for I can't make any promises sorry!
