Mitch remembered the first time he saw the boy.

It was on his first morning in Arlington, and he came down for breakfast with his computer. The boy was sitting in the corner, staring sadly into his Froot Loops. He wore a large, tattered sweatshirt and leggings, and there were bruises along his neck that were poorly hidden with makeup. Other guests at the hotel were avoiding him.

Mitch sat down in a table against the wall, where he could see the boy in his corner. He ate his waffle and watched him, his computer remaining open and unused on his desk. The work he was supposed to be doing did not get done.

The boy left his mind for the majority of the morning. He stayed in his room working and eating the room service chips he'd ordered.

Mitch came down to the lobby at noon to go to the meeting he had an hour later, and he saw the boy talking quietly to a young girl whom he saw behind the counter earlier that day. His arms were around his stomach, and his sad blue eyes had tears glistening in them. Mitch frowned to himself, but he didn't dare go over to him. He just left to go to his meeting.

When Mitch returned, it was after the happy hour, and the boy was sweeping up the lobby seating area. That confused Mitch, because he'd assumed the boy was a guest, but he didn't think much of it as he went back up to his room.
