"Small," I deadpanned, "this is small?"
After we had left Daniel's parents' home, he decided to take me to his "small apartment" as the school's dorms do not allow any females in, no matter what the relationship. He told me that we'll only live in his apartment for a while until he can find somewhere more suitable for the two of us to live and spoke as if the place he was taking me to was the size of a small cardboard box.
It wasn't. In fact, it was literally three times bigger than my house. And as if that wasn't enough, it was located on the top floor of the most luxurious complex in the country. The city skyline was his view, for God's sake.
"This is probably small for you because you're used to living in that ridiculously huge mansion but to the average human being, this is bigger than the average house. You literally have half a floor to yourself."
The last level on the elevator opened to a hallway with only two doors on the opposite ends of each other. His apartment was the size of half an entire floor and he was talking about it being "small". I really did not know what to make of this.
"I'll let you choose which room you want," Daniel said, ignoring my words. "Both rooms are fully equipped so pick whichever you're more comfortable with."
"How many rooms are there?"
"Two. One is mine and the other is the guest room."
"Then wouldn't that automatically make the guest room mine?"
"It's a little small in there so you can have my room if you like."
"Again with the small talk," I rolled my eyes. "Where are the rooms?"
He lead me up the stairs and then to the right side of the staircase, "Both the rooms are across from each other on the second floor. This one is my room," he said as he opened the door to the room we were standing outside.
I walked in and automatically felt impressed by how clean it was.
"I spend most of my time at the dorms so I don't really have time to mess it," he said, reading my mind. "The cleaning lady cleans what I mess anyway."
I looked around the room with raised eyebrows. The walls were a nice cream white color but everything else was black. From his sheets to his furniture, there was literally nothing but black in every corner of the room.
"I feel like I'll get depressed if I stay in here," I said with a frown. "Why is it all so dark?"
"I never actually noticed it before you mentioned it actually," he said with a frown as he looked around his room as if he was seeing it for the first time.
"Seriously? The walls aside, there is nothing in this room that isn't black. How did you never notice it?"
He shrugged, "Maybe that's why I don't like living here..." he trailed off with a shrug.
"Show me the other room," I sighed.
He lead me in the opposite direction to the left of the staircase. It was frustrating how far each room was to each other.
Once we reached the second room, he opened the door for me to look. It wasn't as big as the other room but it looked much cosier. There was a large king-sized bed in the middle and the furniture actually had colour. That aside, the view was much better from this room than the other.
"I'll take this one," I said as I walked in to better observe my new room.
"Alright," he said, the awkwardness finally setting in. I looked at him and couldn't help but laugh at how he looked. His cheeks were tinted pink and he stared around at the walls as if they were the most interesting thing in the world.
He turned to me, looking surprised that I was randomly laughing. I didn't bother explaining to him though. I just continued to explore the room. That was until I opened the doors to an empty closet and realized I had nothing to wear.
"I have asked one of the helpers to bring you some clothes," Daniel spoke, reading my mind once again. "You'll have to do with some of my clothes until then."
"Uh, where are they getting my clothes from?"
"The store," he said as if it should have been obvious.
"And how would they know what I'm interested in? I better not get any skirts or dresses," I warned.
"I told them you like leather."
"I don't like leather..."
"But you have that jacket on every time I see you," he pointed to my leather jacket.
"Yes, and this jacket aside, I do not own any other leather clothing items."
"Then we'll go to your house and pick up your clothes," he suggested. "I should probably introduce myself to your parents anyway."
"That's not necessary," I said, my voice dying down a bit.
"They'll be worried if you don't show up at home, won't they?"
I sighed and turned to him. "No, because they are dead."
Silence followed my words. His face fell and he looked very upset by my words and although I didn't mean for it to come out as rudely as it had, I did not want to talk about my parents.
"I'll just wear whatever your helpers or whoever bring," I sighed as I plopped down on the bed. Daniel stood at the door for a few minutes and observed me. He then sighed and walked in and hesitantly took a seat beside me on the bed.
"I don't really know how to say this," he began, "but I just want you to know that I will be taking our marriage very seriously."
"What?" I sharply turned to him. "I hope you're not forgetting this is only a contract marriage. We're through within six months."
"I know," he turned to face to me. "That came out strangely. What I'm trying to say is that within these six months I will support you like a real husband."
I really did not understand where he was going with this talk, but it was beginning to make me feel very worried. He seemed to realise I wasn't liking the direction t his was going so he further explained.
"Real or not, I have some strict and personal views on marriage. I guess it's a family thing. Since I married you, whether it's real or not, I will treat you like my real wife. I will provide you with whatever you need and I will protect you. So don't hesitate to speak to me."
I opened my mouth to tell him that was not necessary but he cut me off.
"Basically, what is mine is yours. I will give you everything and I will treat you fairly. In fact, I'll give myself to you completely."
I once again tried to cut through his words but was unsuccessful a second time.
"I will provide you with everything and anything you need," he began as he looked me deep in the eyes, "besides love. And that is because this is a contract marriage, so I will act maturely and accordingly."
