Demani rolled over and smacked her alarm to shut it off. She sat up as her 6 year old brother ran into the room.

"Happy birthday Mani, I love you! " he shouted, as he rubbed his eyes. Demani sat up.

"Thanks seven, comere squirt and give me a hug. " she opened her arms as he ran into them. He let go and she put her house shoes on.

"Momma said you need to get dressed nicely. " seven said turning around leaving the room.

"Okay. " demani said picking up her phone and turned on her playlist and plugged it into her Bluetooth. She grabbed her dry towel and underwear. She walked into her bathroom and turned on her shower and got in.

Demani got out and dried off putting on her underwear. She walked back into her room and to her closet. She heard her mom's song come on and started singing.

"A friend became the love of my life, " she pulled out a black crop top, fatiged joggers, and black wedges. She looked in the mirror and put on clear lip gloss and shook her head full of curls. She decided to put on her designer clear 90's glasses.

She turned off her Bluetooth, grabbed her phone, and white mcm backpack of the chair and made her way downstairs to the kitchen.

"Good morning puma! " her mama shouted pulling her in for a hug. As her stepdad walked in.

"Erykah I thought she told you she liked being called demani. " he laughed directing a group of people to sit a cake down.

"She did but I named her puma and to me she will be puma to me Andre. " she punched him in the arm, and he pulled her in for a kiss.

"Happy birthday demani, " Andre pulled demani in for a hug. " and you look beautiful. "
He took a step back and looked at her.

"Thank you Andre, " demani said looking at the cake. "And this is beautiful can't wait to eat this tonight with you guys. " demani readjusted her glasses.

"Hey I'm here for my beautiful daughter, " Her father walked in. "There y'all are, wow you look gorgeous today. And you too Erykah. "

"Thank you Taalib see you later at puma's party?" Erykah walked to the sink across the room.

"Yeah see you then Erykah. " Taalib turned turned to Mani.

"Thank you daddy, " she put her hands in her hair shacking it. "Ready to go? " she pulled out her phone and texted her best friends.

"Yeah what we doing first, love? " he wrapped his arm around her leading her to the front doors of the house.

"Going to get my boyfriend, then to get my dress then we can go do what you want. " Mani replied and got in the passagers seat of her fathers car, as her father shut the door for her.

"Okay I have a surprise for you after okay?" he asked nicely, starting the car and driving out of the driveway. Demani pulled out her phone and dialed in her boyfriends number.

"Okay daddy," Demani waited till he picked up and answered. "Hey boo we about to pick you up we're are almost there."

"About that, I'm out of the country." Donald answered. Demani shifted in her seat.

"Well will you be here for my party tonight?" Demani asked quietly.

"Demani I can't be there, I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you but we left abruptly for this pop up concert." Donald said threw the phone. "I want you to be happy instead of waiting on me to come back and then I'll have to leave again." Donald said quietly.
