"Too Late"

The words the unknown number texted me wouldn't leave my mind.
Where was my dog?

"Too Late"

I walked upstairs to the guest bedroom in silence. The boys were watching soccer anyways, which didn't interest me. I tried to calm down. The texts were just a coincidence. I laid back and tried to relax. It was probably just some stupid high school nerd anyways that has nothing better to do then send anonymous messages to hot girls. Yes, I just called myself hot. Yes, I come across conceeded. And yes, you better get over it.

"Greyson, are you alright?" Harry said walking in the room. I mentally groaned at the annoying nickname he has called me since day one. "Yeah, I'm fine" I said twiddling my thumbs. "You look kind of pale." He sat down on the bed next to me.

I stared at the ceiling in my laying position, the rain pouring against the window in a deafening manner. "Just tired." I sighed and looked at him. I caught his stare and he shook his head, his long fingers running through his hair.

"If you ever need anything you know I'm here for you, right? I mean seriously- anything. From boy problems to algebra." He said looking up at my expression.

"Well yeah, you are letting my brother and I stay at your house because I can't stay at mine considering I'm afraid of the dark." I rambled letting the words slip from my mouth before I could think about them. My face flushed and he smirked, but I actually didn't regret it. I felt close to someone for once in my life. I felt like I could tell Harry anything in that moment. "Your secret is safe with me." He chuckled, my face resuming to its normal pale hue. I looked up into his green eyes, and he still had a slight grin on his face. His jaw line soon gravitated towards my face slowly, not breaking eye contact. I felt his hot breath tingle on my nose, causing my senses to bring on a sneeze.

I sneezed.

I fucking sneezed.

Harry wiped his face with his hand as I quickly tried to apologize feeling extremely self conscious. "I-I'm so sorry! Oh my gosh... I just sneezed all over your face... I'll get a tissue or something... I'm so so sorry! That's gross!" I said talking quickly without taking a breath. When I got up to get him a tissue, he pulled me back.
"It's okay Greyson, I've just never had a girl sneeze on me when I was trying to kiss her." He laughed.

"Trying to what?" I said in shock, yet excited. I liked Harry. I liked Harry a lot. Before I could day dream any further I was brought back to reality by a furious Luke standing in the doorway. His arms were crossed and his face was red as he stormed in the room. "You're my friend! I don't need this bull!" He said bubbling with anger. "Mate I'm-" Harry started but was pushed out of the way and Luke grabbed ahold of my wrist. "We are leaving." He said before I could process what was going on. All I knew is I was being dragged out of the guest room by my older brother. "Get your stuff." Luke said sternly and I quickly gathered my things. "You can't be serious." Harry protested. "She's afraid of the dark, she can't go back to your house!"
"You did that. You hurt her! Just like you would anyway if you dated! You just hurt every girl you see!" Luke spat.
Harry tried to change Luke's mind, but Luke slammed the front door before he could finish.

"I'm sorry." Harry said calmly after Luke had stormed out. "Me too" I said looking him up and down with a smirk. I wouldn't have said that, but I guess tonight I was feeling brave. I didn't look back at Harry's expression, although I wish I would have.

I walked out in the down pour and got into the car. I was still smiling from the kiss, but quickly wiped the expression ofF my face. Luke was clenching his jaw tightly and left as soon as I was buckled. I remained silent as he drove away. I looked at the time and it read 10:47pm. The wind and rain was drowning out the radio as Luke drove, but I didn't mind. We drove past our house and I began to wonder where Luke was going. We drove down the main road and there wasn't a soul in sight except for the poor business owners who were still open incase people needed something. Luke pulled into a parking lot of a small diner and I grinned. This diner brought memories flooding into my mind. Where I had my first kiss, where Luke had his first job, and where my mom used to take me on my birthday. I had an emotional attachment to this place, so it was humoring that Luke stopped here. I followed Luke into the diner. A young waiter watched us enter. There was an old man sitting at the counter watching the news while eating a slice of pie. At least we weren't the only crazy ones out in the storm.

"What can I get you two love birds?" The waiter asked with a grin. I scoffed. "This is my brother!" I said in amazement at the waiters assumption. I looked at Luke who was grinning. At least the waiter broke the ice so I wouldn't have to. "Oh, I'm sorry" the waiter blushed. "I'll have a coffee." Luke said trying to hide his laughter. "Me as well" and he quickly left. I looked over at my older brother who still had a devilish grin plastered across his face.

"Do we even look like a couple?" He chuckled making his lip ring move up and down. "I sure hope not!" I groaned closing my eyes and leaning my head back against the booth. He took my hand in the two of his and I opened my eyes to see his blue ones shining through mine. "Grey, I'm sorry for over-reacting earlier about Harry, but you have to understand it from my point of view." I saw something flicker in his eyes before continuing. "Harry is my best friend, but you are my sister. You come before anyone else and it just kills me to see you with him like that. I just love you so much Grey, more than you will ever know." His eyes moved down to our hands and he gave mine a light, reassuring squeeze. "I understand Luke. It's okay, I'm sorry for doing that again." I looked up at him and smiled but his eyebrows furrowed and his lips were pressed into a thin line. "Again?" He said, his words coming out venomous.

Shit.

"Yeah. I-uh... When I was sixteen... me and Harry... Um" I put both of my hands underneath me and looked down at the table in shame.

"You didn't like... " his words trailed off but I knew exactly what he met.

"No, of course not, Jesus Christ Luke" he sighed and shook his head. "I mean how was I supposed to know? Sorry Grey." He said to me with a blank expression. We sipped out coffees in silence for a little while, the booth was full of tension.

"We can't go home." I said breaking the silence. "It's scary" I said with a shiver. He tilted his head at me raising his eyebrows. "Then where do we go?" He asked. "Can we please just go back to Harry's house." I asked pleadingly. "Seriously? Why would you even ask that, Grey?" He said firmly with anger. "Sorry." I mumbled slouching back into the booth.
