I climed the rope as it led me to another ramp. I jumped over as many obstacles as I could and all I could hear was my battle buddies screaming my name to keep going and my drill sergeant screaming out my other ear. "Come on, pick up your feet! Are you a girl?"
Indeed I was. And so was the other 19 girls in my platoon.
I ran as fast as I could and dropped to the top of my belly as I army crawled under the sharp nets. ON the other side I could see a couple of male soldiers chuckling at my battle buddies and I. I could hear them mocking us for being girls.
"Girls shouldn't be soldiers. At least be a nurse in the army or something right boys?" One soldier laughed.
Hearing that angered me causing me to crawl faster and faster towards the end of the net so that maybe, jsut maybe my fist can punch his throat out, but I remained my cool. I got up from the net and endured a couple more humilating comments form these soldiers. What were they doing on the sides like that anyways?
A firm hand clasped on my shoulder. As I turned I saw Katie huffing and puffing drenched in dirt and sweat. "Ignore them, there just a bunch of assholes."
I nodded in response and kept on running throughout the mockery the soldiers were giving us. Until I saw him.
"What exaclty do you boys think you're doing?! Go back into your lines and give me 20! Infact, give me 40!" He was tall and very muscular in fact. He looked like he had brown hair, but the buzzcut under his hat didn't make it noticeable. He had tanned skin and warm golden brown eyes. But of course, the hat.
He was a drill sergeant.
For am inute there it seemed like he looked at me for a little but went back to his platoon of men.
He walked up towards the soldier that was making the most comments towards my platoon.
"Do you speak to your mama with that tongue boy? Your mama is a G I R L but is stronger than you! respect your fellow soldiers regardless of what they are, understand boy?"
"Yes, Drill Sergeant!"
Hearing that made me smile a little, as I turned back to look at him one more time, I saw him glance over quickly at me, which made my heart jump quite a bit... yet again I didn't know if that was just my drill sergeant screaming in my ear. "What are you doing Archibald?! Hustle, hustle, don't keep your battle buddies waiting!"
