"Are you ready?" She asked me. I nodded and got into the car.

"Everything is gonna be alright," she tried to reassure me although she was as nervous as I was.

"We are about to find the truth and all of our problems will go away, okay?" I was imagining the worse case scenario despite Carm's hopeful words. She intertwined  my right hand in hers and kissed it then looked at me: "I will be by your side no matter what cupcake."

It was one of these moments were words unnecessary to express the feelings. The only way to answer her support was through a kiss. A kiss that made me feel safe. A kiss that made feel that I had somebody to count on. A kiss that reminded me that Carm was my home.

"Now let's go before we're late," I said breaking the kiss and  wiped the tears on my cheeks.

When we arrived to the witch's house, Mattie was already waiting for us. She told us she would go there early to make sure that everything was ready for our arrival. She greeted us and ushered us into the house. It was not big nor small, but the lake of lighting inside was probably set up to evoke fear into people when they walked in.

Mattie signaled us to follow her into a darker room where the witch was. It was illuminated by maybe a thousand of candles.

I could not discern her face very well, but she looked like she was in her forties. She looked big, which might be the effect of the black dress she was wearing and that black veil on her head. She was mixing something on a bowl in front of her. The smell was not welcoming tho.

"Are you Laura?" She asked in a husky voice.

"Yes." She pointed the chair to me. I sat in it facing her. Carmilla was standing behind me. Her hands were on my shoulder to tell me that she would be with me all the way. Mattie was standing in the door frame, observing everything.

"That one," pointing in Mattie's direction, "told me that you needed to know whether the baby inside you was something bad."

"Yes," Carm quickly answered for me. I did not need to look at her to tell that she was a mess and could not wait any longer as her grip on my shoulder was so tight. I put my hands on top of hers to calm her down.

The lady told me to lie down on the bed that was in the corner of the room. I advancing to the bed when Carm stopped me.

"What?" I said. She could not utter a single word but I could see through her eyes that she was worried for my safeness. She would not let go of my hand but Mattie came to her said and told that she trusted the witch.

"I will be fine," I told her for the last time. She let my hand go and held on to Mattie's. It was really heartwarming to see her so worried while I was the one with the thing inside me.

"I am going to apply this mixing on your belly," the witch explained. "Red means not good and purple means that your child is fine."

"What is it made of?" Carm asked.

"The required ingredients," she retorted. "Let me do my job, would ya?"

She then proceeded to cover my belly with the potion.

"We will know the answer in about a minute." She added when she was done.

The room was silent like a cemetery. Everyone was holding their breath. My heart was racing. Carmilla was sitting beside me now, holding my hands firmly. No words were needed to communicate as our thoughts were written in our eyes.

My eyes and Carmilla's were fixing the mixture on my belly while Mattie was nervously checking the time although the witch had set up her own clock.

My heart jumped when I finally heard it clicked. My eyes instantly met Carmilla's. We were both afraid. Afraid for our relationship. Afraid for our future. Afraid of what could happen. We did not dare to look at my belly now.

"You people are too soft," the witched said while laughing. She approached the bed, looked at my belly, and paused with a look on her face.

"WHAT?" Carm and I screamed in unison.

Then we saw her smile and we knew that it was safe. She did not even have to say it out loud. Carm's lips were already on mine before I could react. She was smiling and crying through the kisses she was giving me.

"I am so glad you are safe," she said while hugging me tighly.

"I can't breath Carm."

"Oh sorry." And we both cried-laughed while holding each other's face. Mattie congratulated us. Then the thought hit me like a lighting.

"Carm?"

"Yeah babe."

"Then who inseminated me?"

She took a minute to process my question. "We will work on that, but now let's celebrate the fact that you are not carrying a little devil inside you," she said, smiling at me.

"Let's go home."

Months have passed and yet we could not find out who was responsible for my pregnancy. My belly was huge. Carm was less worried since we acknowledged that the child was safe. She did not gave up in her search though, but, to quote her, "she had better things to do" like spending her time caressing my belly and talking to the baby. I found it endearing how easy it was for her to accept that we were having a baby despite the unfortunate situation it was created.

Mattie went back to whatever she was doing before visiting us when she was that Carmilla could not leave my side to help her. I appreciated her understanding. Perry and LaFontaine visited me regularly, making sure that I was not doing anything I was not suppose to. Carmilla's order they would shout whenever I complained.

They were there when the baby first kicked. They took a video to show Carm since she was out that day looking for answers. When they showed it to her, she got down on her knees and kissed my belly bump first then me. Her love made me stronger to face the unknown, which was who put that baby inside me.

I jolted from my sleep as I felt some extreme pain coming from my stomach.

"Carm wake up! Something is wrong!" I yelled. She got up, turned on the light and froze. I was bleeding.

"I am calling an ambulance," she said.

"No, we don't have time. Grab the backpack I prepared and help me to the car."

"But Laura, it's not ready yet. It's just eight months."

"DO WHAT I SAID," I shouted as the pain was ravaging my body.

She took the bag and put her hand around my waist to support me while my right hand was around her neck. We made it to the car. She opened the door and sat me in the passenger seat. She was about to start the car when she said she forgot something.

"I'll be right back. Hold on."

But as soon as she left, someone got into the car, started the engine while another one put her hands on my mouth so I could not scream. I debated with my lips until I found an opening and bit the guy and shouted Carm's name. We were already too far away unfortunately but I trusted her vampire's abilities to maybe, maybe hear me calling her.

I did not want to end this chapter with a cliff hanger but I could not resist XD. Hope y'all like it!
