It was a warm October day and my mother and I had been at the park. I was 8 at the time and I had been crying because my father had died just that morning. They told me he'd died in a car crash but I know better. My best friend, Koinu, had been there too. We had known each other for about two weeks then. He was the only one who had ever actually acknowledged me in school. I sat alone everyday until one day when he approached me and asked if he could join me. I was thinking about this when Koinu said "Neko, you need to eat. I got you your favorite. Shrimp." "Thank you. I can't imagine having a better friend." I said.
This is what I was thinking about in this moment. I was now 19 and Koinu had been gone for 3 months. He finally called to say that he was back from his business trip and he was on his way. About 20 minutes later I heard a knock on the door. I ran towards the door and saw Koinu. I was furious with him because he had just up and left without telling me or anything. I was about to start yelling at him when he said "I love you". He then kissed me and I kissed him back. That was until I remembered something "You can't love me. It's forbidden!" "But I do. I know it's forbidden but we can work past it." Koinu said. "Okay, but how?" I asked. Koinu said " I don't know, we will."
I loved Koinu, I really did. The problem was I was afraid to tell him before the law was passed. Now, he's told me he loves me too and we can't be together legally. I wish I'd told him before the law was passed. But I didn't. So, I said "Okay, we'll give it a shot."
