March 18th, 2017Paige walked down by the old dock near her cabin and laid down on her stomach and looked down at the lake, she stuck her hand in the water hopefully he could sense it.
Fossegrim was standing on a rock ledge on the other side of the lake and was practicing front flips from the rock and when he dived in he felt her touch the water and wondered if she wanted to talk. So, he swam to where she was. He stopped behind a drowned tree and could see her hand moving slowly in the water.
He then decided to swim all the way to her. Paige felt hair under the murky water and lifted her head up. A man broke the surface and smiled at her shyly. His eyes are a pale faded green almost mint colored and his uneven black hair went to his shoulders his skin was deathly pale.
"So," Paige asked. "You just going to float there or are you going to come up here and introduce yourself?"
He smiled and tilted his head and lifted himself up on the dock. Paige observed him. He has the body type of Steve Rogers before the super soldier serum and was at least 5'9 since she was 5'7 he was wearing loose fitting burlap pants that went to his knees. He was breathtakingly beautiful. He just sat by her probably not knowing what to say so she decided to speak first. "You're a Nøkken aren't you?"
"No, I'm the one and only Fossegrim, but since we're in Sweden I guess you would call me Stromkarl.""I'll stick with Fossegrim," she said with a smile.
He was staring at his feet as he drew them up to his chest. "You're not creeped out by me?" He asked eyes off of her.
"Well, as you already know from reading my diary I could sense a presence here."
His eyes turned towards her when she admitted to knowing about his intrusion.
"I was just nervous about talking to you." Fossegrim mumbled through his mess of wet unbrushed hair. He chuckled a little bit.
"What's so funny?" She asked while fiddling with the collar of her royal blue polo shirt.
"You're talking to me like this is a perfectly normal event, even though you told me that you could feel something here most normal people would still be at least a little bit excited."
Paige tightened her ponytail then put her hands on her cargo shorts as she leaned over to him.
"Well, that's the thing Foss, I'm not exactly normal."
They both laughed lightly.
The days and weeks went by like this. Paige visiting Fossegrim either by diving in the water or by sitting on the dock. Sometimes he would even come on land and sit next to her on her sleeping bag and watch her as she would sometimes write runes or new spells in her various notebooks.
Other days he would play his fiddle for her and she would dance or sometimes bring out either her banjo or guitar and play with him.
April 24th, 2017
Paige sat under a tree near her cabin drawing in her sketch book she looked up every once in awhile to make sure the fish she caught wasn't burning over the fire pit she made. During her friendship with Fossegrim she noticed that he began to act differently around her as if he had a developing crush on her. She smiled at the thought. Fossegrim walked out of the lake towards her with something in his left hand. "I made this for you," he said confidently holding it out to her. She took it in her hand as he sat down sideways from her. She observed the necklace; it was made from dime sized clam shells, all pressed together so no string could show. The cord was made of thinly sliced leather and the clasp was a small carved animal bone and the hoop it went in was also made of bone. Paige put it around her neck(he smiled when she did). "It's lovely, thank you."
"I thought you would like it Paige."
After a few seconds of staring at each other. She closed her sketchbook and got up with Fossegrim behind her. She retrieved the fish from the fire and shoveled sand on the smoldering wood. They sat down and shared their meal."You know, this is the first time I've ever had something cooked, I usually eat everything raw," said Fossegrim.
Paige looked over at him, "How appetizing," as thoughts of him being filled with parasites with blood on his face and everywhere else assaulted her mind. She gagged. Receiving a confused look from the spirit beside her.
They sat outside after sunset and looked at the reflections of stars on the lake. They haven't said anything to each other for so many hours so when Paige suddenly spoke it caused the half asleep Fossegrim to jump. "I'm going out to buy some things for the cabin tomorrow, when I come back will you help me arrange it?"
Fossegrim only nodded half asleep. "Foss, you should probably go to bed, you look bushed."He fell backwards breathing lightly. "Or, you can just sleep right there."
She covered him in her shawl and went inside her cabin.
