A Letter Followed With Roses

I had only just recently awoken to a knock on my door, getting out of bed stubbornly after hearing the familiar tune. Walking down the stairs into the living room, I went and opened the door. I looked about but.. there was only a letter with a skull as the seal and a bouquet of white roses.

I knew what this meant, and I had done it before. Picking up the letter, I heard steps from upstairs. It must've been my roommate waking up, I rarely spoke to him due to having moved in recently. My straight brown hair swept due to the cold morning air. "Hey, what are you doing up?" I heard a voice groggily speak behind me. Ignoring it, I opened the letter and roses, the roses were white, but I knew nothing about what was to eventually happen would be as pure as one would expect when it comes to a feud between siblings. I locked the door. "I asked what are you doing up," the boy I dormed with spoke again, more softly this time, having noted I was a bit shocked.

Shaking my head, I looked up at him, feeling my hair begin to curl, "Kozmo," was the only word I could utter. He frowned, not knowing who I was speaking about or what I meant. Kozmo was my older brother, being the oldest sibling out of four. I hated how he always looked down at all of us, just because he claimed to be the most powerful. Vampires, always thinking they're high and mighty. His pet crow, Bold Hart, was the only thing that could generally keep him in line and give him his powers, but essentially, he kept the bird locked away for protection.

I took a deep breath before noticing my roommate was next to me with his arm around my shoulders. It almost made me feel safe, but it could never be enough. At least, not yet. Though, letting him keep his arm there gave me a sense of protection, as if nothing could hurt me as long as he was there.

Eventually, I opened the letter fully, and I began to read. About half way through it, I realised.. It was a curse I had written when younger. I had accidentally created one, I smiled, starting from the beginning with a new feeling as I read,

"Isolation is not safety,

it is death.

If no one knows you're alive,

you aren't.

If a tree falls in the forest,

and no one is around to hear it,

it does make a sound;

but then that sound is gone.

I'm not saying you'll find the meaning of life

in other people.

I'm saying other people are the life to which

you provide the meaning to."

I smiled down at the paper, no tears came, just a smile. My smile turned into a wicked grin as I grew about six inches taller, becoming my lioness being. My roommate jumped back, "Woah woah woah, I get that we're roommates and all but what the hell is happening?" He snaps. I was too busy grinning to notice, though. My hair trailed down my back in golden spirals, all the way to my hips. Eyes flaring up into an amber color from the boring old grey from before. Lastly, my skin darkened to become sun-kissed, rather than starch white.

I was a different person, but I felt a rush of adrenaline throughout me, as if I was drugged. I didn't want this feeling to stop. The boy stared at me, "Who.. are you?" He questioned. I chuckled, knowing I had never formerly introduced myself.

"Rosemary. Rosemary Widows. But please, feel free to call me Mary."
