i patiently waited for my best friend, yoojung at the school gates. we lived in the same dorm yet everyone leaves at different times. she was small to start with as we grew up, though it's sad, she is a cute friend who was there for me, her cuteness has always covered her height. as she spotted me, she waddled over, "mina-yah! why'd you stay out in the cold dummy." i pushed her forehead with my finger, "what else would i do alone in class, we're almost late for our first day already," i sighed.

yoojung and i rushed to our classes, we only had one class together which was gym after lunch. it's a terrible idea cause there's always gonna be one kid that throws up their lunch during the mile. i headed to calculus alone with lots of notebooks and a laptop for the first day back.

in calc i only had a few friends, i sat in the back with an empty seat as i came in. no partner for the first day, just great. a tall figure came in late and headed towards my seat, all eyes were on him. "mina?" a honey voice spoke. "oh hi seungmin." seungmin, one of my only guy friends besides joshua sadly. my two tree friends, both of them are pretty quiet but they are great listeners and have the corniest jokes to cheer me up. surprisingly, seungmin and jihoon are so called "popular" in this school so everyone would question why i'm even friends with them. they would also start rumors like "oh look, it's the love triangle squad."

class was starting and our calculus teacher, ms. jung brought in a new student. my heart almost stopped. seungmin looked over at me, "mina, isn't that-" i slowly nodded. hwang hyunjin, someone who i fell for badly. let's just say, not in a really good way "hello everyone, i'm hwang hyunjin as some may know. i took a break shortly but now i'm back!" the class cheered, hyunjin was very friendly but had quite a stoned cold face, everyone enjoyed hanging out with him though. sometimes, it was hard to, he wouldn't talk to everyone except his group.

yoojung rushed over to me, "mina! is it true?? did he come back?" word sure spreads fast, i nodded. "just when i thought everything was going to be normal now." seungmin patted my back, "i mean, it wouldn't hurt to forget the past. jihoon and i are pretty close to him." "you seriously want me to look like a fool again?? i already went through a lot because of him.. i just want to attend being unknown then graduate out of this school," i felt bad for ranting at seungmin but being close with hyunjin is just a fear for me now.

after lunch, i changed into our gym uniforms which weren't that bad but everybody blended in. yoojung made sure i had my inhaler and water in case of any situation. "keep it steady ok, tell me if you're tired."

"ok class, warm up for today; we will be going for 6 laps. make it under 11 minutes, ok? good."

i was terrified, my legs aren't that fast or strong. yoojung saw the worry on my face, neither seungmin or jihoon had the same gym class. she would be the only one who would be there for me. i steadily placed my foot on the starting line, a breath in and i ran for my life. after 3 laps i was slowing down and yoojung came over, then my vision blurred and i could only see a tall figure coming over.

황현진 POV

i was running my last lap and saw someone faint. i ran over and looked at her name-tag, it read as "kang mina," her name rang a bell, she seemed so familiar like she was in one of my classes. i carried her inside to a bench and her friend tapped her. "mina-yah, are you ok?" her friend looked to me and bowed, "thanks for carrying her, i can take care of it," i bowed back and left the scene.

she looked pretty weak, maybe i shouldn't have left her,,,

FLASHBACK

it was in junior year, which was last year. i had ran all of my laps and took a quick break to talk with my friends when a girl fainted while running. i didn't have a chance to run over to take a glimpse but she seemed like a kind, soft girl.

i was curious on who she was, it was all a mystery. i thought to myself that i wanted to protect a girl like her. the same girl that fainted was someone that sent me encouraging notes before i took a break. i never knew her name or what she fully looked like because she always left a code name, "tangerine" i didn't know why she would call herself a tangerine but she was sure a wonderful vitamin.

"hey hyunjin, did you know that weak girl that fainted actually likes you? i heard she finds popular boys and use them for popularity. haven't you seen who she hangs out with? KIM SEUNGMIN AND PARK JIHOON MAN," my opinion didn't change but i got curious on how you were like. did you really use boys or are you just misunderstood? why did people think that way of you?

today marks the day i found your identity as kang mina. the same girl that i went out to find last year, i hope you'll open up to me.
