'Alexis get up!' my mother's pissed off voice screamed into the room. 'C'mon Lexis!' She sounded annoyed. I groan, turning over. She sighs, sitting at the end of my bed. 'I know you dont want to go, but too many things are going to change around here and I dont want you to go through that.'
I sat up, looking at her face. 'Mom I dont want to be shipped off.'
'Dont look at it that way, your grandma will live right around the corner if you have any problems and I will call you every night. You can come home for summer, I promise.'
I brought her in for a hug, 'I'll miss you so much.'
Today was the day I was going to Miami to go to a new school...well a university. I was dreading it. But I knew it would make my mom happy. She's going through a divorce at the moment to her husband, my step-dad. I have never met my dad, when he found out my mom was pregnany he packed his bags and left, no one heard from him since. She never really told me why she is divorcing my step dad and I know there is more to the story, but whenever I mention it she just brushes it off or says something like 'Its just not working.'
I finaly dragged myself out of bed, grabbing a towel and heading into my shower. Ugh, I dont want to go.
---------------------------------------------------------
'Bye Lex, I'll miss you so much. Promise to call when your there?'
'I promise,' I mumbled against her chest. She let me go from the hug, which I wasnt too happy about because I could of stayed like that for another minute or so.
'All passengers for flight 107 to Miami need to be on board now. We are leaving in 20 minutes.'
My heart dropped.
Giving my forehead a last peck, she give me my suitcase. 'I love you, I'll see you soon.'
I gave her a crooked smile, 'Love you mom.'
With that I walked away, giving her a wave before turning the corner. Finally by myself, I let a tear fall down my cheek. This is going to be horrible.
8 hours later
'Hey grandma' I grinned as my grandma opened the door. I missed her.
'Lex! Wow you've gotten so big, come on in pumkin.' I giggled at her nickname, grabbing my bags and walking into the house.
We walked into the living room, sitting on the couch. 'So how are you? I havent seen you for like a year?!'
'I'm okay I guess.' I answered.
She put a hand on my knee. 'I know you didnt want to come here but it's for the best, trust me.'
A thought came to mind. 'Hey grandma, do you actually know why my mom is splitting with Matt?'
She hesitated. 'Um, no honey. But even if I did I think it would be gossiping, when your mothers ready she'll tell you.'
She knows. I know she does. Why wont nobody tell me?
I dismissed my thoughts, I'm too tired for this.
'Well I guess I should head to bed, I'm up early.'
'Okay Lex, goodnight.'
'Night grandma.' I kissed her head before heading to the spare bedroom.
----------------------------------------------
'Hi I'm the new student here,' I said to the office lady. She gave me a fake smile, looking up at me. 'Ah you must be Alexis Williams.'
'Yeah.' I replied.
'Here, your schedule, locker number and dorm.'
'Thanks.' I took the papers off her before dragging my bags outside and walking into the other building. After about 20 minutes looking for my damn dorm, I finally found it. Unlocking the door, I was relieved to see I had a room to myself. I wasnt really a people's person. Looking round the dorm which wasnt actually as bad as I thought, I dropped my bags on my bed before walking out and heading to first period, which I was already 30 minutes late for.
After finally finding the classroom, now being 40 minutes late. I only have 20 minutes left, what was the point in even coming?
I walked in, all eyes on me. Great.
'Miss Williams I'm guessing?' An old lady approached me.
'Yes' I shot back. I just wanted to get this day over.
'Mind telling me why your late?' Miss Jones said.
'Not really,' I replied.
Everyone started mumbling. I could feel all eyes still on me,
'Since it's your first say Miss Williams I'm going to let you off the hook. If you argue with me again you'll find yourself in detention.'
'Whatever' I mumbled before looking away and looking for a space to sit. There was a row of boys at the back all staring at me. Typical. This is going to be like one of those American schools, all different groups of people sitting in different places. I sat on the opposite side, at the back, by myself. What a good way to start off my time here.
