Recap from part 21

"Then do you wanna eat some food?" I pointed at the feast provided for me. They looked so delicious, Gavin had no good reason to decline.

Just when Gavin and I were finishing our last few bites, the same guard came in with a few maids, and they cleared away the dishes. The guard introduced himself as Paul, and informed me that the King and Queen wished to see me. Gavin could come along if he wanted to too. Then, Paul excused himself from us and Gavin and I went about getting ready for our meeting with my parents.

We were in both together in our room when Gavin's phone gave a ring. I froze, unable to fathom what horror would it bring this time.

Part 22

He picked it up, and looked at the screen. "It's a message. From...you know."

Frost packed itself inside me. I do not want to be constantly reminded of about Pearlyn's pregnancy. And now she's bugging Gavin non stop. A thought deep beneath me bloomed, making its way to the surface, filling up my mind. I felt I should give Gavin up, to give him to the one who needs him more than I need, who is pregnant with his child, to be exact, while me, this third party, should stay as far away as possible from them.

Gods, what am I thinking?!

"She says she's not going away after all. Her maid has secretly helped her find a qualified surgeon who has agreed to do an abortion on her, so she would be spared of leaving. Well, this is a relief! Isn't it?" Gavin beamed at me, but at this kind of timing, it didn't feel welcoming to me at all.

It made my blood freeze in my veins.

How could he bear to have an innocent child be killed like this just because he wants to be with me? Even he did it to make me happy, deep inside, my conscience would keeping ringing like a alarm clock, and I know it won't ever stop.

"I want to talk to her. Pearlyn." I held out my hand for the phone.

Gavin's smile slowly faded and a guarded expression came onto his face. "You're going to try to talk her out of an abortion." It was a statement, not a question.

"Yes. It seems selfish of me to stand and watch while someone kill an unborn child just to let me be happy. As much as I don't like to say, this makes her more of a saint than me, and I'm determined not to be labeled as a murderer when she comes to regret the abortion. Now pass me the phone."

I could tell from his expression that he did not want me to change her mind. Well, that's too bad. He can't change my mind that easily.

"You don't wanna pass me the phone, fine. There are lots of phones around, and I'm not afraid of not finding one to call her," I started for the door.

"You can find lots of phones, that's fine, but you won't find her number. Go."

If he's really that selfish of a vampire, I'll let him go. It's enough if he doesn't care for a tiny life. Who knows, if Pearlyn's child came out a boy, he might grow up to commit patricide, depending on how much Gavin disgusts him. Damn, how did things become like this?

"I'll call her as soon as I find her number, then," I retorted.

"And meanwhile, as you begin your search, I'll be packing and heading back home. Seems like you have made your decision to let her have me. Fine by me, anyway. Don't come back and beg to have me in the future."

I laughed it off. "You know very well that even if I don't find you, you'll come here to find me, eventually. Don't forget about our wedding deal, asshole," I spat, and before he could find a kick-ass reply, I stormed out and pulled the door shut with a burst of strength.
