When I woke up in the morning after a lack of sleep. It left me feeling horrible, and just pissed off in general. The good thing is that today is Saturday, and the bad thing was that we had a city meeting. The meeting was to discuss the children and teens found in the abandoned house and how they got there, so I put on my jeans, T-Shirt, and jacket and walked downstairs.
My mom was in a panicked rush to get my younger siblings ready, and my dad seemed completely over it. " Why are we going again?" He asked. My mom looked at him with a frustrated expression and told him "It was important to show respect for the families who had lost their children and now had found them."
After what seemed like forever we were ready to go. It was a thirty-minute drive to the courthouse so there was no time to take a cat nap. My parents and younger siblings were all arguing in the van, and I was stuck in the middle. As soon as we got there I hopped out of the car and walked into the lobby. I saw a few families and their scarred children. Then I saw Maya talking with her dad. I walked up to them and said hi to Maya. She looked at me and waved slightly. Then she asked her dad if we could go hang out for a little while. It had been the first time in years since I had heard her voice. It sounded the same yet different. We sat down on a bench in the corner of the lobby and started talking. It was back and forth of casual banter, then I made a mistake, a huge mistake. "S-s so where did you get those scars?" I asked. She looked at me and then looked at her arms. Something wet fell on her arms. They were tears.
"I-I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked," I said. She looked up at me and grabbed her wrist and squeezed it. " No, I-" She stopped talking. Then we just stared at each other. We looked at each other until the end of the meeting. In Dead Silence.
That night, I had the same dream again. He's still watching... waiting...
