"Um, what do you mean Scar? Like there's a lot of folklore around these bad boys."
Ellie sounded confused, and she had every right to be. I had never really displayed much interest in the topic before. Ellie wanted to study mythology in depth ever since she was a kid, and I only tagged along because I felt obligated to.
"Like Native American and old European folklore, I don't trust anything past the point of 1800s."
I didn't like where this was going. I knew that it was silly and probably bullshit, but something was telling me that I was right. The Red Riding Hood analogy, the scratches and hair on the porch, the dreams......
The little feeling I get when I'm around him, it can't be normal. It's like I'm out of control, like I'm on fire or I'm about to explode. I want him to touch me, and I don't even know him that well.
"Hello? Earth to Scarlett?"
I jumped out of my daze.
"Hi, sorry. Got distracted."
"Well, like I said, there are some myths on Native American werewolves. Legends of shape shifters vary, but they do tend to favour the wolf quite a bit."
Yellow eyes.
"What about eyes?"
"What about them?"
"Like how common are yellow eyes in wolves?"
"Well," I heard some typing in the background. "All wolves are born with blue eyes, but most change into yellow after a few weeks."
I sank down to my the floor in disbelief.
"Scar, what's going on? You're acting all weird."
"Um, Ellie, could there be a slight possibility that Werewolves exist?" I tentatively asked.
"Actually, yes. The fact that there are legends of shapeshifters on every habitable continent further proves the existence of creatures of legend, especially since most of the civilisations that have Werewolf legends weren't even in contact with each other for centuries."
"You're fucking with me right?"
"What the hell is going on Scar?! You're freaking me out! You can trust me, just don't leave me in the dark."
I took a deep breath in, thinking through the entire thing.
If I tell her she might think I'm crazy! But on the other hand, she may help.
"There's this boy......"
She squealed so loudly, I had to hold the phone away from my ear to prevent any damage to my hearing.
"Who is really weird. Like, Stranger Things or Vampire Diaries weird. And I know that that this might sound crazy Ellie, but you have to trust me. I think that my classmate may be a Werewolf."
Ellie burst out laughing on the other end, no doubt ignoring my ramblings. But when she didn't hear my laughter join hers, her wheezing turned into nervous chuckles and then dissolved into silence.
"You're serious." Not a question, a statement.
"Yes I am. I know it sounds crazy, and it's probably bullshit, but it also kind of makes sense."
"Okay, what are they like?"
"Strange. Really really strange. He acts like he's dangerous, gives me a nickname after Red Riding Hood, and he has some weird beef with another kid, who get this, is named Hunter."
