24 hours. One day. He wasn't sure what to even think about saying since this was almost their last night together. He paced around his room most of the night, trying to come up with the right words to say. He didn't even stop when his friends came in and checked on him.

They knew exactly what was up as they saw him wreck himself in front of their eyes. He was in love. And there could only be one person he was in love with. It was the girl that lived next door who's balcony was right across from his.

They watched him, words flying out of his mouth in little fragments. They must have been things she had said because he muttered something about Kiwi and fruit quite a lot. They couldn't help but feel sorry for him, after all they knew he wasn't the only one leaving. Their nice neighbor, an admirable man, told Ashton and Luke that his daughter was leaving for Canada in a couple days time but he'd have her go and check their house for them before she left.

They only knew briefly of the girl. Ashton had seen her that one day and though he saw how beautiful she was, he doubted he had. After all, Luke told him about a few of their conversations since his room was next to his and he could hear them talk some nights when his window was open. He had fell in love with her shadow and her words, not her beauty or grace.

They decided not to tell him since it wasn't their place but had the sick feeling that she wouldn't either. But by the way he was destroying himself in front of them, they knew he didn't tell her either.

She watched him and his friends from her window. He seemed to be going crazy but the others were calm and collected. She watched in wonder at the boy who had managed to steal her heart, yet he didn't know.

After running inside once he had confessed to thinking about being in love with her, she cried herself to sleep with horrendous thoughts. She was scared to fall because there would be nobody to catch her. Her Kiwi would be gone forever, and that scared the hell out of her.

Hours past as he continued to mutter to himself while she watched with curiosity. The other guys left a little after midnight, tired of the useless information he was giving.

At 3:40, she walked out onto her balcony, a pack of cigarettes and a small orange lighter in tow.

He continued to talk to himself until

he saw the flame as she lit her cigarette. He took a deep breath and squeezed his eyes shut, hoping to god that he wouldn't screw up their second to last night together.

He walked out at 3:41, just a minute off from the exact time he walked out the first night. Her attention turned from the smoke rising in the air to the dark haired boy on the balcony across from hers.

"Kiwi," she whispered softly, a smile forming on her lips.

"Canadian," he smiled back.

They stood in complete silence for a moment but both their minds ran over time.

"Listen," he began. "About last night, I-"

"Don't worry about it," she sighed.

He nodded his head but grew confused.

"Wait, so what do you feel for me?"

She took a puff, allowing the smoke to rise out of her mouth.

"I'm confused Kiwi," she spoke quietly.

"About," he furrowed his eyebrows.

She shook her head.

"I can't fall in love with you, Kiwi."

"Why not," he mumbled.

She sighed quietly.

"I'll only hurt you," she whispered.

He huffed partially annoyed.

"And why would you think that?"

She stared down at her feet.

"I'm scared of falling, Kiwi."

"Why would-"

"3 questions, I have 3 questions left," she interrupted.

"Fine," he mumbled.

She licked her slightly parted dry lips.

"Why do you love me?"

He sighed to himself.

"I've gone over this all day," he whispered.

Her eyes travelled to his shadow.

"I love the way you call me Kiwi. I don't know why exactly but the sound of your voice brightens my mood. I love the way you used to stand out here alone to smoke and you let me in, breaking down the walls you've built around yourself. I love the fact that I can talk about music and football with you like you're one of the guys. I fell in love with you without knowing your name. I fell in love with you without seeing your face. I fell in love with you for you."

They stood quietly for a moment.

"The real question," he spoke dryly. "Is why don't you love me?"

She bit her lip.

"I think I am in love with you, Kiwi. I just can't bring myself to admit it."
