The theme of my portfolio is basically an online book which will include all the components of this portfolio. I decided to write the book on wattpad. Wattpad is a community for readers and writers where people can discover new user-generated stories, spanning across different genres including classics, general fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, spiritual, teen fiction among others. The reason I chose to write a book was because of my immense obsession with reading. Reading represented something I really was interested in. Therefore, it was best to incorporate my leadership journey in a book because it was something I connected with.
Whenever I read a book, I noticed a flow of development in characters by the end of the book. Some characters had developed negatively and some flourished into better people. Therefore, in my story I can start my leadership experiences from when I was young and started learning what an effective leader is. As the chapters go on I can show how I have developed and grown as a leader throughout my leadership experiences.
The reason I chose to do an online book on Wattpad as oppose to a hard copy is because I also prefer reading books online (preferably on Wattpad) because they're easily available and I don't have to go spend money on a hard copy. Therefore, it reflects my preferences more accurately. This website allows me to put my information in separate chapters like an online book which further enhances my theme. Also, people can comment on my story which makes it easier to gain feedback. This website enables me to make my own profile which allows me to put my personal information and other things about my personality such as my views and opinions on an effective leader. This helps me portray things about myself more effectively.
The cover of my book shows a girl standing behind a bright light appearing to look for something. I chose this because it represents the main topic of my book which is to explore the leader within myself and what a good leader should look like. Therefore, the cover shows that the girl just needs to develop as a leader herself and for that she needs to find what an effective leader is. The bright light represents success which can be attained easily once the leader of a team is efficient enough. The quote on the book states that "A leader knows the way, goes the way and shows the way". This gives the audience an idea about what else they can expect in this book. It demonstrates the main topic of the book which states what a good leader does. In this case, the cover conveys that a leader mainly needs to set directions and help others go on that path too to achieve success.
My personal leadership philosophy is that:
I believe that effective leadership requires the leader to inspire and develop and direct their followers to successfully attain their goals; the leader needs to help motivate their followers and over come their flaws which helps breed them into great leaders too.
This kind of approach and opinion on effective leadership is important because it demonstrates that reaching a set goal with their team is not the only thing that an effective leader needs to do. They need to make sure that their team is learning and developing successfully form a certain experience. The leader needs to direct their followers and make sure they are adapting themselves according to their workers to help them attain higher goals and be motivated. Motivation and development of workers helps the organization in the long run as they can perform efficiently.
Also, as the leader guides their followers it helps them become good leaders themselves. This is important because a good leader needs to find and help their followers overcome their flaws to help them grow. This can allow those followers to be good leaders too. Leader needs to let their followers go when they have developed and let them explore their own journey of their leadership experiences.
My favorite leadership quotation is by Tom Peters who said that "True leaders don't create followers. They create more leaders".

The reason why I chose this quotation is because it connects back to the first time I learned about what a leader is, how they can be effective and guide their followers. This was when I read an article named "leader breeder". It clearly taught me that true leaders motivate, inspire and help their followers develop so they can also become leaders thus the term leader "breeder". This quote emphasizes on the fact that helping their followers grow into great leaders is important. It shows that a good leader needs to care about the needs of their followers. They need to make sure that the leaders' mentoring is helping their workers flourish. This not only helps the workers grow but it also helps the leader because as they proceed to mentor their followers, they also experience and learn about the best ways to handle various situations or what type of followers react the best to what kind of mentoring. This helps the leader develop too. Moreover, as the leaders create great leaders, those great leaders go on to breed more leaders too then and continue this perpetual chain. This is important because this focuses on how leaders' responsibilities include more than just attaining the goal. It also focuses on helping their team grow and develop. According to me that's what an effective leader should do to develop themselves and others as a leader.
