Song of the Chapter: Yellow by Coldplay
A month prior to the adoption of Eva...
'Death of a Bachelor' had released a week ago, and Brendon was still working on promotion and exposure for it.
"Bren, it's eight o'clock and you haven't left your desk all day." Sarah called from the door of his garage studio. He jumped slightly at her voice before looking at the clock next to her and rubbing his face with his hands.
"God, I didn't even realize. I'm sorry, this is just stressful." She nods, approaching him and sitting on his lap as his arms wrap around her waist. "I know it's stressful Bren, but you need to take time for yourself right now. The album promotion is done, and tour planning doesn't start for a month. Just take time to breathe." He nodded at her, knowing she was right. She stood up and took his hand, leading him from his studio and out into the living room.
They laid on the couch, watching mindless television and settling into the laugh track.
"Something feels empty," Brendon began. Without having to finish, Sarah agreed "I know, we've been married for a few years. The family could grow." An astonished look appeared on his face, followed by excitement, then extinguished with a frown. "But, we can't tour with a kid."
Sarah shook her head "Of course we can. We can adopt. Older kids never get adopted because people want little kids, but an older child is perfect for us." Brendon thought for awhile. Soon enough, a smile snuck onto his scruffy face before he hugged Sarah tightly, silently agreeing they wanted to adopt.
They went through beginning paper work and got their house inspected, not wanting to wait to take their future son or daughter or whatever they wanted to be home. Sarah and Brendon decorated the bedroom with black and white, keeping the rest to be decided later on. He told Dallon and Kenny about their plans, along with a few close friends. Their support helped them and eventually everything was ready, so a month later, they drove three hours out to an orphanage for young girls.

Eva woke up on a bed in a room with white walls and black trim. She assumed she fell asleep in the car, so she left what she could assume was her new room and looked out into the hall, following the soft piano medley coming from down the stairs. When Eva looked over the banister, Brendon was singing Death of a Bachelor as Sarah danced around the living room. Eva smiled at her new family before running down the stairs to join.
Brendon patted the bench of the piano as Eva slid next to him and sang to the notes.
"The death of a bachelor, O-o-oh! Letting the water fall, the death of a bachelor. O-o-oh! Seems so fitting for happy ever after, how could I ask for more? A lifetime of laughter at the expense of the death of a bachelor." Brendon could feel tears prick his eyes at the way her voice could carry the music, never hearing anything like what she sounded like. Sarah spun over, taking Eva's hand and spinning her towards the center of the room as they all laughed and joined Eva in singing. They poorly harmonized, "I'm cutting my mind off, it feels like my heart is going to burst. Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served. And when you think of me, am I the best you've ever had? Share one more drink with me, smile even though you're sad." The three sang and laughed as Brendon's fingers finally lifted from the keys and he ran to his now daughter, lifting her over his shoulder and spinning gracefully, stopping to let Sarah hug them.
Soon, as the laughter died out and they were all exhausted and lying on the couch, Eva felt warm and fuzzy inside. She felt wanted.
"Thank you so much, for taking me. I haven't felt this happy in a long time." Her words were responded to by Brendon's strong arms around her. "Of course we'd take you. You have so much to offer, Eva." he whispered to her. She smiled wider, pulling away from Brendon and holding Sarah. Eva couldn't really believe all of it. She walked up to her room and began pulling things from her bag. Sarah said they'd shop tomorrow but Eva wanted to put out what she had.
