"Aannaaa, oh there you are for good riddance do be a good host and help serve the kings court some tea! We won't want them to starve", my aunt gushed excitedly.
"Now we wouldn't want that would we" I announced my words dripping with sarcasm.
I scurried down the rusted concrete stairs with my black strands of hair bouncing up and down coming into my vision. The hallways gave a pungent smell of metal filling my lungs with heaviness as I rushed to the kitchen. Stray streaks of sunlight filled the castle giving it the only life source. My dress twisted in knots as I arrived clumsily tripping on the last step causing a loud thump.
Eight pairs of beady eyes glared at me as heat rose to my cheeks. I bobbed a curtsy hopping it looked somewhat like one and scurried to the kitchen. Blair was there and met me with a vigorous thin blue gaze as I stood there with a blank face and a goofy grin to match. Blair wore a primp looking ivory dress matching mine, the only difference was I liked myself enough to allow air to reach my lungs whereas she had fully cut of her air circulation. Her soft blonde curls hung low on her waist. She was rather pretty if you didn't count her personality. She had perfectly arched eyebrows to match her heart shaped face and walked around with the elegance of a swan. Sometime i envied how she was always perfect.
"Don't just stand there" she snapped displaying a line of straight white pearls.
"Nice to see you too, my favourite cousin in the whole wide world" I sighed.
I grabbed a kettle from the cupboards and began pumping some fire all while giving her a poisonous glare. Black smoke clouded my face as I viciously coughed and gasped for air. Muttering some not so pleasant words I walked over to the counter with a full kettle, when my heart crashed against my chest, as my bottom made contact with the cold hard ground.
"Ouch" I winched as I looked up to see a fully drenched Blair."LOOK WHAT YOU DID" Blair yelped. I on the other hand knew exactly what I did and was quite proud of my work of art. "UGHH YOU DUMB PI---
A loud velvet chuckle echoed in the kitchen as middle aged men with salt and pepper hair emerged from the main room. He wore unnecessarily layers of thick velvet the shade of mahogany, while his fingers wore chunky gold rings waning flexibility and movement. A heavy gold rim circled his head and to my surprise he was still standing up right.
"That's th the k king" Blair stammered. Blood drained from her face as fast as lightning and her face replicated a deer caught in headlights.
Gee I wondered how you figured that out. I quickly rose from the floor and gave a quick curtsy as Blair followed still in shock. My uncle worked in the kings court which meant the other members usually came by to discuss how to protect the royal family and other abortive trash.
"You must be Lord Flins daughter, and cousin" he nodded at me.
I flinched as he addressed my sleazy uncle as "lord" but ignored and gave him a quick smile.
"Is the anything you need my king" I asked avoiding as much as eye contact as possible trying to be respectful.
"Oh, no I was just looking at the place, its quite a sight if I say so myself".
"Yes"
"So little ones how are you fearing"
"I am fi"
"Yes, yes that's very good to here. So I am presuming you and Blair here are turning 18 this year"
"No my king I am actu"
"Well look at you all fine and grown. I was worried you will never gain your elation back after you're parents died. They were a very huge contribution to the council. Oh well, he sighed. Look on the bright side at least I'm not dead" he cheered and followed it with a laughed.
I nodded my head trying to swallow the heavy lump in my throat hoping the useless conversation will end. But of course he had to keep talking.
"My son the prince as you know him is also alive followed by my beloved queen, now isn't that a great", he chortled. Now as you know you both well be excepted to make a presence at the ball as well as Sophie and Duchess Lean" he stated and to that he left the kitchen.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes and turned to Blair who was still a drenched frozen mess. She blinked at me like she just won a fine brown mare. I let a gush of air escape my lips and started cleaning the mess specifically avoiding the muggy standing lump of cloth.
....
I plopped on the squeaky bed, the springs digging into my back and let out a long pitched scream that soon turned to be a deep whale cry. Yep that's what I do when I am bored. I happily self-volunteered to stay home while Blair, Sophie and Aunt went out to god knows where. Yep it wasn't because they refused to take me out with them, nope completely my choice. Note the sarcasm.
I shoved my face in the lumpy pillow that had a light stench of eggs, my nose wrinkled in disgust as I turned to my ceiling again. I scraped my self of the mattress and popped my head out the bars of my window. Fresh air scraped my face curling the sides of my lips ever so slightly as I let the wind frazzle my hair. I unlatched the chains connected to the door , my feet laced down the stairs bringing myself to a stop.
Footsteps echoed behind be, my uncle. I let out a line of maybe not so ladylike colorful words, meanwhile my heart decided it was a good time to pump out of my chest. My eyes scanned around the room and I found my self in a dusty corner behind a fairly large plant.
My breath chocked on one another as black glossy shoes walk right up to me. Yeah how was I going to explain standing behind a plant casually while everyone was out, very convenient. My heart fell to my shoes as he stopped right in front of me. To my surprise he bent down and grabbed a glass from the shelf filling it with water. Oh, right he was just thirsty and getting a glass of water. Yep one of the befits of thinking the world revolves around you, you get frazzled up for no reason. He let out a content sigh and gulped down the last bits before.
"Ana I know your there", he said in a bored tone.
I clenched my eyes hoping I can disappear, great I am always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Oh", I said dumbly.
"Well it's actually a good thing you are here, me and the royal members actually wanted to talk to you in private", he said gesturing me to follow.
Now what did I do, my mind frantically thought of all the wrongs I did since the mourning. Trapped in my own thoughts I bumbled into his back as he halted to a stop sending me a glare of annoyance, "well this is her", he announced the members looking at me with fake smiles.
I sat near the corner of the dinning table eyeing the decadent glazed chicken.
"So why am I here", I asked while pilling the chicken on my plate and digging in.
"Well it is known that the prince of Zolpha has been a threat to us for many years, and we needed a trusted member to end the threat" the lord said, as if having a normal conversation.
I chocked on the chicken, water springing to my eyes. WHATT!! I'm pretty sure it is called murder!
"It is tradition that the son of the lord normally deals with these matters, but considering your uncle doesn't have a son we need to appoint a daughter, which is why we choose you", he continued.
Heavy drum beats pounded in my ears as I suddenly felt nauseous, they want me to kill the prince! My vision blurred my body feeling dizzy as I blanked out of their conversation. Of course they would choose me, it would be to much of a sacrifice to pick one of his actual daughters.
"You would go my the name Aldis son of Brently Aldis, family of the royal servants, serve as an obedient servant boy age 15, you are to cut your hair, train harder than before, keep your sharp tongue controlled, blend in and kill the king by 2 months time" he said firmly as if talking to a dog.
They want me to be a boy!!, and not even a 17 year old boy but 15. Kill a prince, they want me to kill a fully trained prince, I don't even know how to hold a sword!
