Chapter 7
I stared at the door of my room. I didn't want to do this. The vampires were my worst encounter. They were everything that one should fear. Deadly, harsh, cruel, sinful, indestructible, brutal, savage, and inhuman. But the most dreadful thing was, they were desirable. I knew if any of them were to ask me to go into their arms, I couldn't resist. And that disgusted me. They were all beautiful, but on the inside. They were rotten, dead walking corpses with no heart. It pained me to think anyone died at their feet. Murders, they were, all of them.
I shook my head, tears falling. "I can't do this," I whispered. "I won't do this." I fell back to my bed, were my uneaten steak lay beside me. It scared me to think, that some of them might have heard my whispering. They were so sinister. All that the devil represented.
I finally toughened up, like Dan had been trying to get me to, and wiped the moisture from my eyes. I wanted to see myself in a mirror, to make sure I looked okay, but it wouldn't surprise you to know that I hadn't seen one. I gulped my fear, and threw the door open, before I could convince myself otherwise. I was suddenly in a long, empty hallway. I started breathing heavily. Vampires had walked down this corridor, stepped were I'm stepping. Seen, what I'm seeing. I sniffed and started slowly walking.
I couldn't see anyone, but was assuming they were all outside. It was strange to think that this morning I was speaking with the sprite that got me here. I should never have let her do that, she had nothing real to offer me. My freedom, I thought as I looked around my prison. What a boon.
Sprites were only trickers and hoaxers, and I couldn't believe I had fallen for her clear ruse. It I had simply ignored her, I would still be at Lion's Claw. But doing what? I asked myself sorrowfully. Still getting beat by Merlin and Thomas. I shivered as I thought of the shock Merlin's transformation had brought to me.
"Cold?" Someone hissed.
I took a step back and yelped only to heard devilish laughter.
"Um, humans are scared so easily. I can practically smell your fear."
I looked up to see a pale, dynamic face. My eyes widened and fear pounded through my veins. My breathing became raspy, and I didn't move. I resisted the urge to fall under his spell and embrace him. I couldn't do that, I told myself. Not with something so cold-blooded.
"You are quite beautiful," the man said. "It's a shame I didn't win the quest. I would have liked you. I could of enjoyed your value." He walked to me, then put a hand on my cheek. He smirked. "Why are you scared?" He whispered in my ear.
I stayed completely still, not sure what to do. I looked in his eyes, they were black and larger than normal.
He frowned and hissed. "Answer me."
I opened my mouth to say something, anything. But only whimpers came out.
