The night was serene and calm. Xu Minghao pressed himself against the wall the double bed was pushed onto with a thick blanket covering all but his head. The blinds were completely up, considering that the Chinese male was too lazy to pull them back down. It was as if they were anticipating the presence of the day's sunny glow though of course, that would take hours to arrive. Minghao was also anticipating someone who promised they would be back by 8 o'clock, so Minghao couldn't help but wonder why Junhui wasn't right next to him at 10 in the night.
Call him clingy – because he was – but Minghao missed his boyfriend drastically. The yellow hoodie Junhui had purchased not even a week ago was already drowned in his scent of lavender that Minghao had grown to love. Minghao hadn't taken the article of clothing off since he decided to slip it on when Junhui left for school, almost six hours ago. The moment the older stepped out of the apartment, Minghao's heart already longed for his return. The moonlight flooding into the quaint room reminded Minghao of late night conversations, hushed laughter and the over all feeling of warmth surrounding him. He'd like to experience that again but the one thing he needed to do so was completely void; Junhui.
Minghao sighed, biting his lip and staring at the ticking clock on the other side of the room. The seconds and minutes were taunting him, filling his mind with stupid and paranoid thoughts. He didn't like that. Junhui was coming back, he new he was. Even when he didn't answer his phone for the fifty times Minghao tried to contact him, the younger of the two knew Junhui was coming home. Minghao was certain. Though, that didn't stop him from questioning where Junhui was. It wasn't like him to return so late after his night classes nor was it normal for Junhui to not inform Minghao of where he was going. Minghao's chest tightened in sadness.
"What if he's with someone else?" Minghao whispered to himself, hoping that he was completely and utterly wrong.
But, just as he was second-guessing everything he knew, the sound of the lock on the door clicked. Minghao instantly sat up, listening to things being ruffled around for a few minutes, supposedly in the kitchen. Minghao slowly slipped out of bed, coldness infiltrating his body but he just had to make sure. Peaking through the small crack in the door, Minghao found himself instantly smiling when Junhui was in the midst of putting away some groceries.
The younger stepped outside of the couple's shared bedroom, cursing at the thermostat that continued to fail in functioning. He was so quiet that Junhui didn't even notice his shorter boyfriend until he turned around, being engulfed in a tight hug. Junhui felt a pang of shock through his chest though he returned the gesture, resting his cheek on Minghao's head.
"Baby," Junhui whispered, pulling his head away to kiss Minghao on he forehead, frowning when he saw Minghao's eyes glassy with a thin layer of tears. "What's wrong?"
"You've been gone for so long... Where were you? Why weren't you answering your phone?" Minghao's voice cracked in the middle of his sentence, making Junhui feel saddened at how defeated Minghao was.
"Seungcheol asked me to join him grocery shopping and there was an accident a few roads back. Traffic was terrible and my phone died during class. I'm sorry, Hao" Junhui said wholeheartedly, caressing his lover's cheek with his hand with Minghao completely sinking into the touch. he resented the fact that he did this to Minghao. He should never experience any pain like this.
Minghao swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded, trying to smile the now forgiven situation off. "It's okay... It's better than assuming you were with someone else"
Junhui squinted his eyes at that. "You know you're the only one for me, Minghao"
"I know" The younger confirmed and he truly did. "It's just hard to control my thoughts when I miss you too much. Junnie, don't ever do this again, okay? I'll drop kick you if you do"
Junhui laughed, squeezing Minghao's body tighter in his grasp displaying his affection for the younger. "Okay, I won't"
"Promise?"
"I promise"
Minghao nodded, face still buried in Junhui's chest, knowing that Junhui's words were true. It wasn't his fault that he couldn't comeback home on time and Minghao knew that. It just felt nice that Junhui promised something to Minghao just to make him feel a sense of comfort. The shorter peaked up from his lashes just before Junhui stole a small kiss from him. Minghao just blink in trying to register what had happened.
"Let's go to bed" Junhui suggested, tightening his hold around Minghao's waist to lift him from the ground. Minghao smiled, burying his head deep into the crook of Junhui's neck and allowing the older to carry him back to the bedroom.
Junhui closed the door with his foot before dropping both himself and his beloved boyfriend on the bed, earning playful laughs from Minghao when he started to pepper kisses all over his face and neck. Junhui was thankful every day for such an amazing man like Xu Minghao. He just loved him so much and he knew Minghao felt the same.
Junhui's face hovered over Minghao's for a moment, watching as the younger slipped his bottom lip through his teeth before leaning upwards to capture Junhui's lips into a darling kiss that they both melted into. Junhui cupped Minghao's face lovingly as the other moved his arms up to wrap around his boyfriend's neck with both men fluttering their eyes close. These kisses were the ones that the couple savoured the most; sweet and meaningful. Junhui was the first to pull away before crashing onto his favoured side on the bed.
"I love you, Minghao"
"I love you too, Jun" Minghao sighed in contentment, closing his eyes with a little smile when his lover kissed his nose.
Sleep consumed the two Chinese men. Everything was still, everything was just right.
Everything was perfect.
the end.
