P.O.V Josh

I clasped my hand round the picnic basket and began walking back to the car. The late afternoon sun was heating my uncovered back. As we trundled through the trees, I couldn't help but notice how close myself and Jennifer had gotten. Jennifer isn't just my girlfriend now, she is my best friend. There wasn't anything uncomfortable between us. I can tell Jen anything and feel completely normal.

When we had finally reached the car I put the picnic basket in the trunk. I settled in the car, behind the driving wheel and slowly made my way out of the parking lot.

"I really enjoyed today, Josh" Jennifer whispered putting her hand on my knee soothingly as I drove.

I peered over at her but quickly focused on the road again. "I enjoyed today too. Can I tell you something?" I hesitated.

"Yeah, of course you can" Jennifer said.

I gazed at her again as the traffic light turned red. "I was talking to my mum last night and she was telling me about her prom and gave me the best idea... How do you feel about going to a hotel for a two night break to celebrate our relationship and prom? It'll be like our pre-wedding day" I teased but slightly meaning what I said at the end.

"Your so cute! I would love to do that... But, you'll have to get to know my parents a bit better before I can go to a hotel for two nights with you" Jen sighed doubtfully. I wasn't sure why she was so down because that was great news to me.

"That's perfect. I want to get to know your parents anyway. I want to prove to your dad that I am perfect for you and that I will never ever hurt you" I promised lifting my foot off the brake pedal to start driving again.

The journey home was great until we reached Jennifer's street. I didn't want to leave her. I loved her way too much now. Today has definitely impacted on me and it has really made me think about who I want to be as an individual and who I want to be with.

I clambered out of the car and slipped my shirt back on. Jennifer gripped onto my hand as we walked up her porch to her front door. She rung the bell and we waited for the door to be answered. Jennifer's mum answered with an apron draped around her neck and a spoon in her right hand.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow at your soccer match" Jennifer mumbled awkwardly before leaning in to hug me. "I love you, Tiger" Jennifer whispered. I whimpered as she pulled away from the embrace and walked towards her mum. I mimed the words 'I love you' as her mum checked something indoors quickly.

That's when my heart sunk. Jennifer had entered her house before I was ready to have her out of my sight. I knocked on the door instinctively and instantly regretted it. Unfortunately, Gary answered the door. The word 'shit' repetitively flew around my head.

"Uh... I was wondering if Jennifer could come over to mine to meet my parents. I just got a call from my mum and she wanted me to ask" I lied on the spot. I could feel my ears burning and I felt bad but I had to get out of this somehow.

"I'll just go and have a word with Karen. Do come in though, its getting a little windy out there" Gary grunted moving to the side for me to go inside. I edged past him and stood by the door while he went to talk to Mrs.Lawrence. When I saw Jennifer in the room opposite me, I couldn't help but let out small hisses to get her attention. After five or six hisses she spun realised I was standing there and ran towards me.

Gary approached out of a room on the right just as I was about to embrace Jennifer in a warm hug. "Jen, you can go to Josh's house. You have to be back by ten" Gary declared raising a finger to show how serious he was.

"Okay, thanks dad" Jennifer mumbles. I slide my arm between hers and guided her out of the house.

I turned round to look at Jennifer's father. "Thank you, Mr.Lawrence" I smiled and walked back down the porch to my car. I opened the door for Jen and quickly paced around the car to the drivers side. I couldn't help but notice Jennifer laughing as I sat down. "What?"
