A/N: so this is the experimental first chapter of my Kavi high school AU. Hope you like it.

"Kirstie, pay attention to me."

My best friend Mitch whines at me as we sit in our usual spot on the field.

"What's up?"

My other best friend Scott laughs

"He wants you to check out senior boys with him."

"Seriously Mitch. We don't even have a chance with the hot boys in our grade, let alone boys two years older."

He rolls his eyes at me

"Firstly there are pretty much no hot boys in our grade with the notable exception of Scott who it would be totally wrong for us to date, secondly you totally would have a chance if you wanted it, you are easily the hottest girl in our grade, right Scott?"

Scott smirks at Mitch's seriousness before shrugging

"He's probably right Kirst."

"Thirdly the only reason that we don't get boys is because no one really notices us and I have a fantastic plan to get noticed."

He's right about us not really getting noticed all that much. Scott has a couple of female admirers, not that he's overly interested, and I've had a couple of dates. Overall though we blend in pretty well. Our school is a performing arts school. Me and Mitch do music and theatre and Scott just does music. We're pretty good but so is everyone else so we don't stand out all that much. Not even with Scott's amazing riffs and Mitch's crazy high notes. We just sort of exist. I don't mind too much although it would be nice for them to have more chances to show everyone how great they are.

"So what's this plan of yours then Mitchie?"

Scott asks since Mitch looks like he's about to explode with excitement.

"Two households both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene." He's flourishing dramatically and he reaches behind his back to pull out a flyer for the school play auditions. Scott laughs at his showiness but it doesn't do anything to reduce the seriousness on Mitch's face. I decide to bring it back down to earth.

"We're sophomores Mitch, we probably wouldn't even get cast as background characters. Plus, no offence Scott, but you don't even do theatre."

Mitch rolls his eyes.

"No background characters. Only one of us needs a role. Me and Scott can just be moral support."

"What?"

"Kirstie, you shall be Juliet."

Me and Mitch spend the whole of lunch and then most of our music class arguing about his idea. Scott decides to stay out of it which is probably for the best.
