Sunset on the Boardwalk

I sat up on a tree branch, staring along the horizon. I could see the Pacific from here.

This was a nice spot. A big tree on the side of the road, next to a park. It wasn't but half a mile from the beach.

I usually came here every night, i would park Satsuki a ways away from the boardwalk, then walk down the beach. Then I walked to this park, and sat here every night, watching the sun go down.

Then I would walk the boardwalk, just letting my thoughts roam.

It helped clear my mind.

It rid my mind from the stress of my day. Not that I had much stress, I just kept a lot of my emotions inside, and it would start taking a toll on myself.

I jumped down from the branch and started down the sidewalk towards the beach.

"Hey!"

I turned around at the sound of a man's voice.

I saw him a few yards behind me, walking towards me. He was in tan cargo shorts, a navy blue shirt, and a beanie.

Shane Dawson.

I've always had a crush on him, but it's not like I could do anything about it. He's straight, and dating Lisa Schwartz.

I really don't know what my sexuality is yet. I have never really had feelings for anyone besides Shane. I've dated a few guys and girls before, in attempt to figure out my sexuality, but never felt anything.

"Oh! Hey Shane! What are you doing here?" Yet again, putting on an act so I wouldn't have to answer any questions.

Alone, I was just another depressed emo that looked like a normal guy. But with others, I'm a bubbly, cool guy.

"Oh, I just wanted to hang out here for a while... Lisa and I got in a fight and I figured I'd let her cool off..."

"Aww... I'm sorry, Shane... Say, you want to walk with me? This is kind of a tradition for me... I walk around the beach every night and...-"

He looked at me blankly, and I realized what I just said.

He must think I'm weird... I mean, I am weird, but if he thinks I'm weird he might not want to hang around me anymore...

"Oh, I mean, if you don't want to that's fine... I usually go alone anyways. I won't mind...-" he cut me off by quickly wrapping his arms around me.

I held back at first, slightly surprised. What did I say?

I hug back, and I hear quiet sniffles. I gently rubbed his back, trying to piece together what had happened.

"Shane?... Shane, are you okay?" He pulled away quickly and wiped his eyes.

"L-Lisa and I b-broke up... She kicked me out... I moved in with my mom this afternoon... I needed some air so I came here... Can I p-please walk with you? Please?"

"Oh, Shane! Of course!" I hugged him again, relishing the moment. "We'll have fun tonight. Keep your mind off Lisa." I let go and he looked a bit happier.

"Thanks, Joey... I'm glad I have a friend like you."

My heart sank.

Yeah... Friend....

"No problem!" I replied in fake cheer. "Come on, lets go before the sun completely sets!" I started walking and he followed at my side.

This is nice...

We got to the boardwalk and we walked around, just watching people on some of the rides.

"You want to go on a few rides?" He made a face.
