A New Perspective
Chapter 1
Being the new kid was hard.
The stares, the pointing, the judging, everywhere people were staring at me as if I was some sort of alien. I couldn't expect much more from this town though, it was one of those small towns where everybody knew everybody and everyone was friendly and welcoming, yeah tell that to all the kids sizing me up right now.
I didn't even know where I would fit into - I was quite tall for my age as if I had grew up too fast - my face still had that sort of childish aroma to it and some might even call it cute but I disagree. I was quite skinny with barely a hint of muscle but who needs strength right? I made up for that in how fast I could run which was pretty fast mind you. My hair was dirty blond/ brown, spiked up and a small fringe to the side - nothing special.
"Hey, um I'm the new kid," I said to the lady at the office.
"Oh, why hello there dear, you must be my Ryan am I correct?"
Well duh! "Uh yeah," I replied faking a smile,
"Well don't worry everyone here is really nice and I'm sure you'll fit in just fine, now here is your timetable, a map of the school and the combination to your own locker, if you need anything else don't hesitate to ask me, another teacher or one of the senior pupils, I hope you enjoy your brand new fourth year at Harrington High School."
"Thanks," I turned and walked away, my hands were already starting to shake and I realised I was sweating more than usual but thank God for deodorant. Anyway English first then P.E - shouldn't be too hard, except I didn't have my P.E kit but I'm sure the teacher would understand.
I checked my map, English seemed to be about five minutes away so I started heading in that direction, I should probably tell you a little about myself.
Well um I was pretty sarcastic, loved to make jokes (even if they're not funny) I was pretty smart, although as for common sense I had zilch. I suppose I came off as kind of quiet and shy but once you opened me up I never shut up, I liked to think of myself as kind and helpful but I could be annoying sometimes and well that's pretty much it. As for what "group" I would fall into, I had no clue.
Like I said I wasn't strong so that ruled out "the jocks", I wasn't emo /goth, I wasn't a geek (well maybe a little), I may be bisexual but I wasn't one of those pure girly guys that wear scarves paint their nails and I wasn't going to follow around all the slutty girls and player guys trying to be popular. I really didn't care who you are, if you're nice to me then I'm nice back, simple as.
I had no clue what people had judged me as already, no one had heard my mixed English-Scottish accent as I was born in England but moved to Scotland when I was a baby and lived there ever since. My clothes were pretty ordinary, a pair of dark blue jeans, black Nike shoes and a black checkered shirt, but nothing bizarre - Oh and a black band on my wrist that had my name carved into it which my best friend Rachel gave me when I left Scotland to come down to boring old England.
Whoa! I hadn't even noticed that I was already at my class, I knocked on the door twice and heard a faint 'come in' so I opened the door and walked inside. The teacher was a woman around forty who smiled comfortingly as the rest of the class stared.
"Ah you must be the new boy," she said "Why don't you come in and take a seat we are just talking about what we hope to achieve this year,"
'God, her English accent was already annoying me!'
I took the only seat left which was next to a blond-haired girl staring into space, she seemed to be the only person not staring at me with wide eyes.
This was going to be a long day......
