I woke up one beautiful summer morning. Today was a perfect day for a morning walk. I slipped out of bed and took a fast shower. I put on a blue shirt and some jeans. I slid my curly brown hair up into a ponytail and headed to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple from the fruit basket and began to eat it as I put on my running shoes. Once depositing my apple core, I put on my favorite gray jacket. I grabbed my apartment key and made my way to the park.

As I walked through the empty park, I began to think. I thought about my childhood for it wasn't the best. I remembered how my mom was sleeping around town with men other than my father. He didn't find out until a couple of months later. He ended up divorcing my mom and leaving to start a new life. My mother then fell into a drinking problem, thus causing her to abuse my older brother and me. I was only 8. It gradually became worse to the point where we were scared to say or do anything. The years of what seemed to be endless torture finally came to an end when the word got out about our bruises. We were taken in by our aunt, who allowed us to attend college.

I snapped out of the flashback for it was too much to handle. I looked up from the ground and realized I was in the middle of the street! My heart dropped as I saw a car speeding towards me. I closed my eyes tight and waited. Waited for the car to slam into my body.

"Will she be okay?" I heard a voice say to my left.

"Eventually. We have controlled the internal bleeding, but her ankle and wrist still need a lot more time. She'll be back in no time. I'll be back with the paperwork." The other voice faded.

I slowly opened my eyes. I couldn't see anything; it was all blurry and fuzzy. Once my vision returned to normal, I looked to my left. Sitting next to me in a chair with his eyes directed at the floor was a boy about my age. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He seemed very distraught. He soon noticed I was staring at him.

"You're awake. Are you alright?" The boy asked relieved to see me alive.

"I am in a lot of pain, but I'll live. What happened?" I asked rubbing my eyes.

"Where do I start? Well, I was just leaving my exes house after I caught her cheating on me with my friend. I was so unfocused and angry I was speeding down the street. I guess I wasn't paying attention because I didn't even notice someone in the street. When I tried to break, it was too late. I'm so sorry. I was so focused on my own life I wasn't aware of my surroundings." The boy apologized.

"I feel you pal. I think that's how I ended up in the street. I recall thinking about my past, and when I snapped out of it, I was in the middle of the street. So I guess it's my fault. I'm sorry." Lowering my eyes, I felt a hand on mine.

"No, It's my fault. I don't know how to apologize enough, so I'm paying your hospital expenses. It's the least I can do after hitting you with my car." The boy smiled sympathetically.

"Are you sure, this is an awful lot of money."

"Don't worry about it."

The doctor came in with a clipboard.

"Miss Daisy Mitchell! Glad to see you're awake. Due to your injuries, we do have to keep you here for a couple of days." The doctor said glancing at his clipboard. He turned and walked out of the room to attend to another patient.

I turned to the boy sitting next to me. "I never caught your name."

"Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Gray, short for Grayson. Fun facts about me: I love dogs, and I have a tattoo!"

"Very interesting. I'm Daisy, well you probably already knew that based on the clipboard the edge of my bed. I love frappuccinos, and my brother is my next door neighbour." I said smiling.

"Really wow! I wouldn't be able to spend one-minute next door to my brother. He's such a dork."

We laughed and continued to talk as the day went on.
