ELAINE POV

Today I was chasing down a shoplifter. Nothing big. I chased the hooded figure around an alley corner and headed down the sidewalk. The thief stopped for a split second before sprinting across the busy highway, dodging the cars, causing them to swerve.

I hesitated before crossing I dodged car after car, adrenaline coursing through my blood.

I saw the car before it hit me. A black Mercedes swerved in my direction, I could see the fear in the young driver's eyes. Suddenly I saw him.

He was without his usual suit. This time he was wearing a sort of loose pair of pants. He was shirtless and I could see the defined muscle and of his chest and stomach. His form kept shifting from a dark smiling young man with pale white tattoos to a pale, serious man with dark tattoos. I couldn't focus on one form, they kept changing, kept flowing like the motion of the sea.

The first time I saw him, his shifting had scared me, now I was used to it.

The only thing different this time was his exposed wings. Black and white feathers jutted out from his back, giving him a dangerous, but angelic appearance.

His extended his wings and stared at me. His majestic countenance drew my breath away. He was gorgeous, in a scary sort of way. He turned his head slightly to the side, looking puzzled. I yelled but no words came out out my mouth.

"Who are you?" I whispered.

He mouthed one word and disappeared, "Thanatos."

A force hit my body and I went flying. I screamed and the world went dark.

-Line Break-

"Beep...beep...beep...beep..." I opened my eyes groggily.  I immediately noticed the IVs sticking out of my arms and the oxygen tubes in my nose. I tried to move but found my body unresponsive. I tried again and was able to move my finger. I finally noticed the casts.

Both of my legs were in casts. I panicked and heard the heart rate monitor beeping quicken. I focused on the beeping to prevent a panic attack.

"Beep beep beep beep...beep beep...beep...beep." The beeping slowed and I sighed.

I looked around and studied the room. My hospital bed was in the center of the starch white room. A desk was on the other side along with a small tv. I noticed all the machines to the left of me and then I saw him.

I nearly screamed when I noticed the hooded man leaning against the wall to the right of me

I nearly screamed when I noticed the hooded man leaning against the wall to the right of me. The shadows hid his face, but I knew exactly who it was.

"You knew, you knew that car was gonna hit me. You knew every time.." My voice cracked and the tears started to flow.

He cocked his head to the side and pulled back his head. His shifting forms made me dizzy at first.

When he didn't answer, I repeated, "Every time, you're there, waiting for me, waiting for me to get hurt." He stared into my eyes.

His dark eyes sparkled. They seemed to be the only thing that stayed the same about him. I stared back at him.

Once again he didn't answer, "Who are you?" I asked my voice rising.

"WHO ARE YOU? LEAVE ME ALONE PLEASE!" A nurse burst through the door.

"What's wrong?" I didn't answer, instead I kept staring at the man. I pointed at him.

"Leave me alone!" The nurse hurried to my side.

"There's nobody there miss!" She looked at me.

I kept my eyes on the man. He smiled and winked.

I began thrashing, trying to get a response from my body. The nurse cried out and began to look for a syringe. I kept yelling as she injected me with a dark green liquid.

I tried to resist as my body relaxed and I began to feel drowsy.

As my eyes fluttered, I glanced at him. I weakly whispered.

"Who are you?"

He smiled and mouthed again, "Thanatos." He dissolved into the shadows and my world went dark.
