It was about a month after Lily had given birth and Addy was sitting in the dentist office, filling in some paperwork before her X-ray. She finished it and handed it to the receptionist who showed her to a room.
The nurse walked in, "We will be start in just a moment Miss Jones, but I have to ask you a few questions before we can start." Addy nodded and answered all the question, thinking hard before them all.
"Last question, is there any chance you could be pregnant?" She asked.
Addy thought a moment then furrowed her brow, and recounted the days in her head. She hadn't realized until now that she was late. "Shit." She said under her breath. She apologized to the woman for wasting her time and grabbed her purse, running out of the building.
She hopped into a cab and gave it the address of Lily and Felix's new apartment. As she rode realized she hadn't had her period in almost two months. She buzzed up to Lily and she ran up the stairs, to impatient to wait for the elevator.
"Addy, what's wrong?"Lily asked as soon as she opened the door.
"I might be pregnant." She blurted out, bursting into tears. Lily seemed unsure what to do and froze, reaching out to hug Addy, but pulling back.
"Marie?" She called out, leading the sobbing Addy into the apartment, shutting the door behind them.
Felix's mother came out of the kitchen, a shocked look on her face. "What is wrong?" She asked with a worried tone.
"Addy thinks she's pregnant." Lily said calmly, patting Addy's head, her face was anything but calm as she looked at Marie.
"Alright. Have you done a test yet?" Marie asked, joining the girls on the couch. Addy shock her head, but pointed at her bag.
"I bought a few before coming." She said, hiccuping. Lily went over to Addy's bag, unzipping it and spilling a dozen boxes onto the floor.
Lily and Marie exchanged looks. "Let's get started." Marie said, grabbing a handful of boxes of the floor before heading to the bathroom.
They stared at the eight tests sitting on the sink. "Should we do another one?" Addy asked, grabbing another box.
"Addy, all eight of these say you're pregnant, I don't think you need to do another one." Lily said, gently taking the box from Addy's hand.
Addy sat on the edge of the tub and sighed. This wasn't what she had planned. Her and Sebastian hadn't even been together for a year, and she wasn't sure if this was what he wanted. She felt nervous about telling him, unsure of what he would say.
"What if he's mad." She whispered to Lily as she put her coat on.
"He won't be. That boy loves you more than anything, he's going to be so happy." Lily said as she hustled Addy out the door.
Addy planned out how she would tell him on the way home, but as soon as she walked in the apartment and found him in the kitchen, she was at a loss for words.
"Hey babe, how was the appointment?" He asked, kissing her cheek as he passed by her into the living room with his toast and coffee.
"Fine." She lied, her voice weak.
"Are you alright Addy?" He asked. The concern in his voice made her emotional and she started to cry. He jumped up and rushed towards her, hugging her into his chest.
"Mmh premmeff." She said, her voice muffled, he loosened his grip and raised his eyebrow.
"Come again?"
"I'm pregnant." She said, starting to cry all over again.
"Are you really?" He asked, Addy was afraid to look at his face, when she finally peaked, he was smiling.
"You aren't mad?" She asked, wiping her tears off on the sleeve of her sweater.
"Why would I be mad? I think this is one of the happiest moments of my life!" He said with a smile. He picked her up and spun her in a circle, laughing loudly as they spun. She didn't feel sad anymore and giggled when he smothered her with kisses.
"How far along do you think you are?" He asked, crouching to inspect hers till flat belly.
"I'm not sure. I guess I'll have to make a doctors appointment."
He looked up at her and smiled, then kissed her belly.
