Kevin makes an entrance where ever he goes, with his painted nails and his bright clothes. I never understood his confidence but I loved it. Ever since the day we met, we kept in touch. I called him when I needed someone to talk to and he called me to hang out.
As usual, though, we both had real lives to attend to. I had school and he had midterms. I still could hardly believe that I was friends with a college boy.
"Marcus!"My father called. I go to him. He's standing at the sink with my phone in his hands. My palms go sweaty and my mouth dries up. He knows. I'm screwed. Just when I think he might beat me to a bloody pulp, he hands me my phone. "I told you countless times not to leave your phone on the counter. I don't pay your bill just so you can mess it up with water."
"Okay dad, "I start to walk upstairs.
"Wait," he says. I turn around. "Your mom wants you to go to the store and get her medicine. The pain one." I nod and make my way upstairs. I close my door and text, Kevin.
M: Hey
K🌻: Hey cutie, what you doing?
My cheeks get hot, no one ever called me cutie, save for a couple of aunt's and my grandmother. It made me feel special and wanted.
M: I'm about to go to the store, wanna meet me there?
K🌻: Yeah be there in 5.
M: kk
I put my phone down and get dressed. I put on a hoody and some jeans with my favorite pink converse. My father hated them. Soon I'm dressed and walking out the house with my black Nike's on.
When I get there I see him and my heart pounds even faster. He's wearing a revealing black dress with lime sneakers. His nails are painted a golden/red color and he's got on lipstick. I slowly approach him.
"Wow," is all I can say. He looks really...
"Sexy, I know right," He says." I couldn't decide on what I wanted to wear so I just went with this. I hope you like it."
"I l..." I feel a million eyes on me as I speak. Their all judging me. My palms get sweaty again." can we go inside now." Kevin looks puzzled, then he nods.
"So what are we getting from here?"He asks once were in the pharmacy. I look around and spot it.
"My mother's painkillers, "I replied picking up a box.
"Oh I understand," he said." my mom gets violent headaches like nobodies business." I chuckle and we make our way to the register.
"Its called a period Kevin, "I say, "my mom can't handle her cramps. I'm so grateful that I'm not a girl when it comes to this stuff."
"Yeah," Kevin says smiling widely. He's so...cute. No! That was so gay Marcus. Stop. " So you wanna hang after this?" I bite my lip. I never go anywhere with anyone. I decide that I can trust Kevin and I nod.
"Yeah sure, "I say. Today is full of things I wouldn't normally do.
I drop off my mother's pills and head out to a waiting Kevin. He wouldn't tell me where we were going. So I walk behind him and try to seem like I'm not nervous. Then he grabs my hand. My mind races and my heart pounds. He drags me along with him until we get to this old building with boarded windows and broken window panes. Kevin drags me along knocking on the door. A part of the door slides opens revealing two big brown eyes. He studies me and Kevin.
"Password," He says.
"Sandy egos," Kevin says. Sandy egos?
The boy opens the door. We walk in and suddenly were engulfed in music and dancing bodies. It smells like perfume and sweat in here. Kevin looks at me and smiles widely.
