PREFACE
-Freedom
Jessie looked at me, his deep blue eyes making me forget where I was.
"Are you ready?" He asked, reaching out for my hand.
"Yes," I replied.
He reached down and gentle pressed his lips to mine. Then, too soon, he pulled away.
"We better go, before someone finds us," he said and I nodded in agreement.
We stepped to the edge of the cliff. I looked down at the foamy waves crashing into the rocks.
I glanced at Jessie. He looked at me and smiled, and for that one moment, I felt happier than I had ever been in my entire life.
Then the moment was ruined, because voices were screaming at us from behind. We looked over our shoulders and saw that doctors in white-coats and professors were running towards us, holding megaphones, awful looking tools and chains. Chains! Do they really think that chains would stop us, if we were determined to go?
"Come on!" Jessie called. He yanked on my hand and pulled me closer to the edge.
"Skye! Don't do this!" A familiar voice called. It sounded strange, coming out of a megaphone. I looked behind me again to see Dr. Marylin staring at me, her eyes frantic.
For a moment I felt uncertain if I wanted to leave with Jessie, never see anyone from this dreadful place again and eventually forget everyone in my life.
Apart from Jessie.
Did I really want to do this? Did I really want to escape?
"Skye, please!" Dr Marylin called again, her voice pleading. I understood why; she had looked after me when i was orphaned, protected me from everything in this world. Except from tests and experiments, and drugs and needles and so much more. Though when my mother had been killed, she had taken me in, treated me like I was her real daughter. She had loved me.
But she had also betrayed me.
I looked at Jessie. Did I want to do this? Yes, yes I did.
I smiled at him. "Let's go," I said to him.
He smiled back and we jumped, over the edge of the cliff.
