The night was sleepless for almost the whole house. Joe and Andy laid in their rooms and stared at the ceiling. They both already cared so much for Eva, but they didn't have quite that special connection at first that she had with Tyler and Pete. They felt completely useless in the situation other then being present. Tyler spent a while longer crying to Josh before wearing himself out and passing out in his friend's arms. Josh put him to bed as best as he could and stayed with him, barely sleeping from thinking what could have happened. For him, it hurt even more knowing that their shows were supposed to be safe places. Eva could have been anyone, and anything could have happened.
Patrick spent his time consoling the puffy eyed Brendon after he sent Sarah to bed. She was barely able to keep her eyes open. Eventually, he got the worried singer to lay down on the couch. Patrick stayed up, pacing about the kitchen or checking up on everyone else. Pete was with Eva, so he wanted to take on the role that Pete usually filled.
Eva barely stirred, the emotional toll taking all of her energy. Pete meanwhile, just sat on the floor next to the bed, worrying. She reminded him of himself when he was young. It was even more so then the others. Eva was just trying to get by and pretend nothing ever went wrong. What concerned Pete was where he ended up only a few years past where Eva was now. That thought alone kept him awake. The night was long and seemed like it never wanted to end.
-----
Eva's eyes were heavy and puffy when she woke up, practically jumping from the sheets. Pete took no time to come to her side and hold her tightly. "It's okay," he comforted, bringing her head into his chest. She breathed in and out to his heartbeat and let her own heart rate return to normal. "Sorry," she mumbled, looking down and feeling red in the face. Pete shook his head as he replied "Don't be sorry for this, ever." The words made Eva look back up to him and into his eyes. She'd never been told to not be sorry so many times in her life. Eva grew to live with apologies and it became her reaction to everything. She just nodded as she rubbed her face and tried to knock the weight it carried away. Pete let go of her carefully and stood from the bed. "Let's go get some food." The tired girl shook her head gently. "I'm not hungry, but I'll come." She began walking from her bed and pulled on a black hoodie over her head. When she reached the door, a pair of strong arms lifted her up onto their back. "I can walk Pete, it's okay." she laughed lightly. "I don't want to hurt you." Pete scoffed, "You're so light, Eva. Don't worry about it. Walking is overrated." The girl held in her protests about how heavy she was and just shook her head quietly. He placed her on a bar stool in the kitchen as Brendon turned back from the stove.
"Good morning, sweetie. How you feeling?" Eva shrugged sluggishly, leaning against her arm to support her head. "Better, just tired." Her father, still worried, nodded and smiled slightly, hoping to see her face brighten back up. He placed a plate of eggs and toast in front of her, the clatter of the plate against the tile making her jump and her blue hair fall from her bun slightly and into her face. "I'm not hungry," she whispered slightly, looking up at Brendon and trying to give him signals to not mention it. Eva prayed he wouldn't mention it, not with Pete there. "You sure? Not even just a couple bites?" She shook her head and refused to look in his eyes. He sighed and went to kiss her head gently before looking up at Pete and passing him the plate. He looked confused but accepted it, sitting next to the young girl and letting her lean into him.
Tyler and Josh woke up not too much longer and decided they needed to leave in an hour to avoid morning traffic and beat afternoon traffic. They sat along with the lyricist and teen, eating two helpings each. "Want some?" Tyler asked Eva, her response just being a slight shake of her head. All the men worried now, but didn't bring it up. Soon, it was time for them to leave. Josh said goodbye to Eva first, pulling her tightly and protectively into a hug. "I'm always a phone call or text away, okay? We're staying around LA. I'm here, please remember that." She nodded and buried her face into his neck as he picked her up and spun around. Her laughter exploded and made all the band members that had now filled the living room smile and relax slightly. "Love you , E." She looked up at him and nodded, "I love you too, Josh."
Tyler was next as he scooped her up carefully into a hug. "Take care of yourself, okay E? And if there's something you don't want to tell people here, text me. You need to tell someone. I love you, darling." She teared up slightly at his words, it all reminding her that she mattered in this family. "I love you too, Ty. See you soon." He nodded and smiled, setting her down and tickling her sides before getting his bags and shouting his final goodbyes with Josh at the door then closing it behind him. She walked into the room of musicians and sat in Patrick's lap, burying her head into his shoulder as they scrolled through Netflix. She didn't watch really, she just thought about the explanation she owed to Brendon and Sarah before falling into an uneasy sleep. Brendon woke her a few minutes later, asking if she wanted to go to the studio. Her smile appeared as she nodded and took her dad's out stretched hand.
Brendon lifted his daughter onto his lap as he sat down at the piano and mindlessly played around her frame. "Dad?" her words broke through soon enough. "What is it kiddo?" he replied, lifting his hands from the keys and looking her in the eye. "Last night, when I talked to Tyler, I realized that now I have to get better because people need me. I'm needed, which is kind of a first for me recently." Eva's tears fell onto the pianist's hands as he held her face softly. "Last night was the scariest moment of my life, but it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. But, now I'm scared of what happens to all of you if something happens to me. I don't want to hurt you all." His mouth fell open as his daughter fell into his chest. Family wasn't about hurting each other, it was being there when someone else got hurt, and growing with them. "Sweetie, look at me." She followed. "You will never hurt us. We are you're family and we love you like it. What happens in the world sucks, but you need people to get better. It may sting, but we want to be there for you." Eva nodded and hugged him tightly again, not letting go for a long time. She loved her family.
-----
The day was spent relaxing and getting to know each other more. Andy, Joe, Patrick, and Pete left after dinner to see there own families. Eva was a little sad, but understood. Brendon came into the living room and sat next to his daughter, leaving her in between him and Sarah. Eva's eyes were starting to get heavy. "Ready for bed?" Sarah asked, giggling a bit. Eva smiled and nodded before rolling off the couch and kissing her mom on the head and walking to Brendon. He stood and lifted her before she could speak and walked her up the stairs and into her bed. "I'm going to the studio tomorrow. Wanna come and meet the boys?" Eva smiled and for a second forgot she was tired from the excitement. "Okay," he laughed. "Great. I want them to meet you before I announce anything online." That struck fear in Eva, knowing people could be mean, but she pushed it aside for the time being. "Great," she smiled. "Goodnight, darling." Brendon whispered, kissing her head and closing the door behind her. She slowly drifted off to sleep, fear and anticipation spiraling through her.
Right as she dozed off, her phone buzzed. She rolled over to read it.
tyler : Goodnight E, remember how much we love you.
She smiled reading it before another popped up from two unexpected people. But, it meant almost more then Tyler's.
andy: I know we don't know you as well as pete or ty, but you're so amazing and we're happy you're safe. never be scared to reach out kid.
joe: precisely. don't hold back, we'll always be here for you. We love you E.
Eva closed her eyes and smiled into a, for once, deep and calm sleep.
a/n: loving safe bet tonight, stuff is getting kinda bad again but i graduated a few days ago and it's weird to think that I actually made it to that day. i owe it all to this music i write about and the friends i made through it. somethings are totally worth pushing through the darkest times, i promise, okay? love you all
