"I'll be right back Pegster!" Maria Reynolds shouted to her best friend as she walked out the door of their shared apartment.

"Alright 'Ria! Get me some hot pockets while you're at it!" Peggy Schuyler replied.

"Got it!" Maria laughed as she grabbed her keys and closed the door. Once she made it all the way down the hallway, she pressed the "down" button for the elevator and waited. When the doors slid open, she slipped into the small and bland room. Halfway down, it suddenly jolted to a stop. "What the heck?" Maria said to herself as she pressed the call button. She started to panic and frantically press the call button multiples times when her first attempt failed. She slammed her fists against the doors when the power went out in the entire elevator. "Help! Please!" she cried. With her last thread of hope, she pulled out her phone. Maria was met with disappointment when the screen showed that she had no signal. She fell to her knees in horror when reality hit her like a brick to the head: she was stuck in a cramped, dark room. Alone. Her claustrophobia took over as her head rested in her trembling hands. Her breath hitched when she heard a forbidden sound. Then another. The gunshots made the elevator shake. But Maria wasn't worried for herself anymore. She was worried about Peggy. "NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO! TELL ME SHE'S NOT HURT! PLEASE !" she cries into the empty space, smashing her fists into the elevator door once again. After a minute of pounding, the power returned to the elevator. As soon as the doors opened, Maria flew out, receiving weird looks from the people in the lobby. She tore open the door to the stairwell, and sprinted two at a time up the stairs to the fifth floor. She was a mess of adrenaline and panic. When she was finally in front of the door, the hinges were broken, leaving it open. Hot tears stung Maria's eyes as she tripped into the apartment. "Peggy!? Are you here?! Please, someone! Anyone! Answer!" Maria cried.

"M-mar," she heard a weak, pained voice sputter from the kitchen. Maria stumbled over her own feet while she rushed toward the voice. She stopped short when she saw exactly what she was praying not to see. There, in the middle of the floor, lay Peggy. There were gunshot wounds in her leg, shoulder, and right in the middle of her ribs. "Pegs! Oh my god!" Maria cried as she dropped to her knees at Peggy's side. Peggy's eyes opened slightly, and then she smiled weakly up at her best friend before she fell unconscious. Maria choked while pulling her phone out.

"911. What is your emergency?" a calm voice said through the phone.

"M-my best friend. Sh-she's been s-shot multiple t-times," Maria spit out.

"Is she conscious? And where are the gunshot wounds?" the voice asked.

"No, she's unconscious. A-and the gunshots are in her l-leg, shoulder, and in b-between her r-ribs!" Maria answered.

"Is the victim breathing?" the voice questioned.

"I t-think," Maria said.

"What is the address of your location?" the voice spoke.

"120 Miranda Street, New York City. I-I'm in an apartment complex. Room 1776, f-floor five," Maria replied.

"An ambulance will be there momentarily. Please stay calm, miss," the voice stated.

"T-thank you," Maria exclaimed before hanging up. She then dialed a different number.

"Hello 'Ria! What's up?" a new voice questioned through the phone.

"H-help Alexander. It's Peggy. C-can you p-please contact Eliza and Angie for m-me?" Maria states shakily.

"I'm on my way," Alexander replies. "John, get the keys. Maria and Peggy need help!" Maria hears Alexander yell to John, his boyfriend and detective partner.

"Please hurry Alex. I already called 911," Maria adds.

"We're in the car right now. I'll call the sisters," Alex exclaims before hanging up. Maria puts her phone down and rests her head on her knees. Fresh tears fall from her eyes as she rocks back and forth. Her world was crumbling around her.
