Beca Mitchell. A girl who had loads of secrets that she buried in her tiny body.
Beca didn't open up to anyone but she didn't find the need to since she constantly moved to one state to the next. She was constantly known as the "New girl" and she liked it like that. That way, she didn't have to miss anyone.
Beca, her dad and step-mom, John Mitchell and Shelia David, moved to Los Angeles, California. Her dad was offered a teaching job at Barden University which he accepted. ———————————————-———————————————-
Beca sat the last box on a coffee table, wiped her sweaty brow and cracked her back. She spent eighteen hours in her dad's car as they drove here, Los Angeles, from Seattle.
"You okay, Becs?" Her dad asked as he started to unpack a nearby box that had the words 'Kitchen appliances' scribbled on it.
Beca nodded "Sure am, just tired."
Mr Mitchell nodded and then shrugged "I did tell you to try and get some sleep but you didn't listen."
"I was busy!" Beca protested "I was looking at the courses this school offered!"
Mr Mitchell smiled at his daughter "Did you pick your subjects?" He asked.
Beca nodded and started to unpack a random box "Psychology, history, maths, English and, um, music."
Her father gave her a stern look "I thought we talked about music, Beca. It isn't a practical subject."
"I'm doing everything you and Shelia asked me to pick...I thought why not?" Beca answered.
Shelia entered the room once she heard her name being called. Shelia was in her late 30s, she had black hair, pale skin and hazel eyes. And unlike Beca, she was tall.
"I heard my name being mentioned." Shelia said before kissing her husbands cheek.
Mr Mitchell sighed, "Beca chose music."
"I thought we discussed that?" Shelia replied sternly.
Beca sighed and looked at them "I picked all the subjects you guys asked me to pick, why can't I do something I enjoy?"
Her father and step-mom looked at each other before caving.
"If it distracts you from any other subject, we're pulling you out. Is that clear?" Her father told her, his voice stern.
Beca nodded "It's clear."
Her stepmom looked at her watch before saying "Beca, it's late. Go to bed. You have school tomorrow and you need to make a good impression."
Beca nodded, understanding "Yes, ma'am." She replied before walking upstairs into her undecorated room.

The next day, Beca and her stepmom sat in the Principal office in Barden High School.
Beca wore a black laced top, a plaid skirt and black boots. Her hair was wavy and natural. She wore simple makeup.
Beca shook her leg as she waited impatiently to be called into the office. In an attempt to distract herself, she began to scroll through Twitter.
The office door opened and a girl said "Miss Edwards, you must understand that the Bellas need some of the funding too? More than the basketball team or soccer team?"
Beca looked up to see a girl being shooed from the office. She had blonde straight hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She looked pissed off.
"Miss Posen," said the woman who Beca assumed to be Miss Edwards. "You know I don't make the decision on who gets what and if I did, the Bellas would be getting more attention."
The blonde girl sighed and looked down "Thank you for your time, Miss Edwards." She then left the office without another word.
Miss Edwards sighed and looked at Beca. She smiled and gestured for Beca and her stepmom to enter her office.
Once everyone was settled and sat down, Miss Edwards started to read a file which had Beca's name on the front. After a few minutes of silence, Miss Edwards smiled "Welcome to Barden High School, Miss Mitchell."
"Thank you, ma'am." Beca replied brightly, knowing that her stepmom was eyeing her.
Miss Edwards said "You're a very bright girl. Do you know that?"
"She sure is." Her stepmom answered quickly, not letting Beca answer.
Beca tried to keep herself from scoffing. She attempted but failed horribly. She let out a scoff but turned it into a cough, her stepmom immediately looked at her sternly.
Miss Edwards didn't look up or pay it attention, instead she asked "Why only Music?"
Beca frowned "Pardon?"
"You only picked music." Miss Edwards told her, "Why didn't you pick Drama or dance? Barden is known to excel in the Performing Arts."
Her stepmom cleared her throat, catching the attention of Miss Edwards when she said "We want Beca to have qualifications in subjects that will actually get her job, Miss Edwards."
Miss Edwards frowned, she didn't seem happy when Shelia intervened. Her brown eyes darkened and she squinted her eyes, "With all do respect, Mrs Mitchell." Miss Edwards said with fake politeness "The Arts are extremely beneficial to teens and children."
The conversation was interrupted with a knock on the door and a girl entering.
The girl had fire red hair, and enchanting blue eyes. She wore a red jacket, a black top and black jeans. She had a smile on her face. Her smile made Beca smile and recently...it got harder and harder for people to get her to smile.
"You wanted to see me, Miss Edwards?" The girl smiled.
Miss Edwards smiled back "Chloe, come in." Miss Edwards told Mrs Mitchell "This is Chloe Beale, she's one of the school prefects."
Mrs Mitchell smiled at Chloe "Nice to meet you, Chloe."
"You too." Chloe responded immediately.
Beca smiled shyly "Nice to meet you."
Chloe frowned at Beca and then smiled as if she was realising on who she was.
Beca looked away, noticing Chloe's eyes sparkle with recognition.
Beca had a YouTube channel. It was called "Cover_Girl". And she just posted videos of her covering songs and also mashups that she made.
Miss Edwards handed Beca a planner, a timetable, a map of the school and something called the code of conduct. "Welcome to Barden High. Chloe will be your guide and study buddy."

Beca and Chloe walked around the property of Barden High School. Chloe was showing her things like the hill which was behind the gym where people go to skip class and smoke. She also showed her the fucked up water fountain which the janitor refused to fix and the vending machine that was located in the third floor of the school. After showing her around, they both sat in the courtyard of the school, under a tree with large branches that looked like claws of some sort. They ate in silence before Chloe asked "So what's your story? Why are you here?"
Beca frowned "I'm not sure of what you mean?"
"You obviously aren't from around here" Chloe said bluntly "I want to know why you moved to LA..."
Beca tensed, suddenly becoming uncomfortable and shifting around in her sitting position.
"I, um," She stuttered "My dad got offered a job in Barden University so we moved here."
"Where were you before this?" Chloe asked as she popped a grape into her mouth.
Beca rubbed the back of her neck anxiously "Seattle."
Chloe took a sip of water before staring at Beca "You're that YouTuber, aren't you? Covergirl."
Beca winced and nodded her head "Kind Of?"
"Kind of?" Chloe repeated confusedly.
"It's complicated." Beca answered quietly, looking down at her uneaten apple.
Chloe looked at Beca, sympathy in her eyes "Understandable." She said quietly.

When Beca arrived home later that day, she was greeted by silence. She smiled, knowing that she could happily sit in her room and play her guitar for a bit before having to start homework. Beca sat at her desk and began to think about Chloe. There was something about the redhead that made her feel happy and maybe it was just her constant smile or her positivity radiating from her like some radioactive waste...whatever it was, Beca was intrigued. She was confused...can people really be that happy in life?
