"My mother is having a pool party and she wants us to attend," Daniel told me after I returned home from a strenuous day at school. Somehow the evil queen of our school found out that I was married to the one and only Daniel Sage and made it her mission to get in my good books. Any other time, I probably would have really enjoyed watching her suffer but I was going through the stress of exams and a crazy mother-in-law. So no matter how much I wanted to enjoy her attempts, I wanted her to leave me alone even more. Which she obviously did not comply with unfortunately.
"When?" I groaned.
"Now."
I turned to him with the best are-you-serious look I could muster.
"I'm too exhausted. I seriously can't deal with your family right now."
"She said it's an important event. She gets really angry when we skip out on events."
"Tell her I'm dying."
"Isabella," he sighed. "Come on, up you get," he said as he tried to pull me up from the couch. I groaned and did as he wanted.
"My mother told me to make sure I tell you to dress for the occasion," he said.
I rolled my eyes but did as he wanted.

"Are you sure this is a pool party?" I asked as we walked to the back yard of his family mansion.
"A party beside the pool," he nodded with a smile. I turned to him stoically before groaning.
"A pool party means you party in the pool not beside it!"
I should have known there was something wrong when he looked my outfit up and down with a confused expression on his face. I had worn a simple black bikini with a kimono and mini shorts to cover myself up until I got to the pool. That was how people generally dressed when attending a pool party, right? Right unless you were attending the Sage's pool party. The people at the Sage's were not dressed to swim. The men were in formal suits and the ladies were dressed in gowns.
"So I assume there's no swimming at this pool party."
"Nope," he grinned down at me.
"Great," I groaned. I then looked him up and down before asking, "Knowing this, why did you dress like you're going swimming?"
"So you don't feel left out," he said before greeting his mother.
"Bloody charming," I rolled my eyes.
Daniel was dressed in a simple black tee and shorts. He looked like the typical jock you would see at a typical pool party and his mother was not having none of it.
"What are you wearing?" she hissed at us. "I told you to dress for the occasion!"
"And we did. This is how people dress for pool parties," I sweetly smiled at my mother-in-law, as I did a little twirl for her.
She sent me a glare before telling Faith to find me something "proper" to wear. Her daughter smiled at me as she pulled at my arms to get me moving up the stairs.
"I don't think I want to change my outfit," I told her with a frown. "I'm happy with my outfit."
"Daniel," his mother groaned from behind me, "tell your wife that now is not the time to play. This is our annual pool party. You know how I feel about our annual events!"
