Maja is convinced that the heat radiating off the pavement is enough to melt the soles of her tennis shoes. The Australian summer is well and truly here, with temperatures sitting just under forty degrees but not quite hot enough yet for the roofs to be closed over the arenas.

Both she and Dominic played had their singles matches that morning and she has successfully made it to the last sixteen which means her parents will be calling her soon, regarding their stay for the duration of the Open, so hopefully she can continue to perform. This didn't come without a cost however, as she unfortunately ended the campaign of friend and fellow Fed Cup team mate, Agnieszka Radwanska. She has managed to smooth things over with Agnieszka in the locker rooms after the on court interview and there are no hard feelings. It is a cut throat industry and it is only the beginning of the season with many more tournaments to be played, including three more majors.

Maja types Dominic's full name into a new tab on her phone, eager to see the outcome of his match.

Since they have decided to be friends, she has promised herself that she'd be more proactive in finding out more about him.

That is a relief that he has won in straight sets. Not that she expects any less of the Austrian, he is incredibly talented and works exceptionally hard. Her win too came just as smoothly in contrast to her marathon match a day or two earlier against Kvitova.

"Hey Maja, over 'ere!" calls Dominic, he is accompanied by Alexander and Angelique.

"Oh hello," she says unsurely, "to what do I owe this pleasure? Angie, Alex?"

"Vell sin'ce dis isn't an official training session with coaches, I fort it'd be good to do a friendly  match," says Dominic. "You know, for fun."

"Yeah of course, you could have told me though. Not that I'm complaining. I'll be fun kicking German ass," says Maja.

"We'll see about that," quips Alex.

"We sure will. Cab we have a hit though to warm up? How long have you guys been here for?"

"Check group chat, princess," says Alex.

"Sorry, I was too busy with my singles," she replies. "Last sixteen baby."

"Congratulations about thee vin by the way," says Dominic. "I saw the highlights."

"Oh yeah?" Maja replies, grinning at him. "You too! I saw you defeated Mannarino in straights. I bet you're confident going into the next round."
