Maja wakes up to an empty bed, but it doesn't come as a surprise to her.
After dinner, the pair returned to her room and sat on the bed discussing their future in the grand slam among other topics, whilst the television provided some white noise in the background, previewing matches due to occur the following day. Dominic then had announced that he had something to do in the morning and therefore couldn't stay the night. Which was probably not a bad thing, as staying the night after sleeping with someone for the first time is a bit much and the last thing Maja wants either of them to be is overbearing.
Dominic doesn't owe her an explanation, he probably has some kind of training on with Günter for his singles game and Maja understands that literally sleeping together can be quite a big step in some people's minds. This applies to the two of them, as they are both so new and unexplored to each other.
Maja and Dominic have extremely important matches scheduled in the day ahead, as they need to endure their quarter final singles rounds and then in the evening take the stage at Margaret Court arena, to battle for a spot in the mixed doubles finals.
Maja is feeling good and even if her performance against Petra wasn't to her usual standard, today is a new day and a fresh opportunity for Maja to play her very best tennis. This will be necessary as she is playing the French world number six seed, Carolina Garcia. The previous match was a learning curve for the young Pole and another irreplaceable slice of match playing experience under her belt.
It is while Maja rinses her dishes from breakfast does it occur to her that she and Dominic should probably have a chat about what exactly the actions of last night meant to the two of them. It is paramount for it to be discussed as Maja would like them both to be on the same page, as if this can be achieved, the possibility of either of them getting hurt decreases. Communication is so important in these kind of situations.
Maja steps into the shower and adjusts the valves to a bearable temperature before stepping underneath the stream of water. Her hands run over her face with a squirt of cleanser and she quickly glides a razor over legs and pits. Each to their own when it comes to personal grooming, but her tennis outfit is sleeveless so she wants to stay on top of her body's hair growth.
Once her fingers start to shrivel from the excess amounts of water, she turns it off and dresses herself. When she finishes brushing her teeth, Maja swishes her mouth with Listerine and spits in back out into the basin before leaving her room, tennis bag over her shoulder.
There is a little bit of time remaining when she arrives at Melbourne Park and her stomach rumbles, reminding her that she was going to get a quick snack. The cafe she decides to go to is connected to Rod Laver, therefore it means that she doesn't have to rush as that is where she will be playing her singles match.
"What would you like today Miss Sówka?" asks the girl from behind the counter.
"Please, call me Maja," she says, grinning, "and one strawberry milkshake, smoothie, or whatever it is."
"The one with banana?"
"So that's the other flavour in it, I was wondering what it was. Yes please," replies Maja, nodding her head and tapping her card on the Eftpos machine.
