Danny and I walked out of school together, hand in hand. I hold Danny's hand tighter when I saw Brandon staring at us.
"What's wrong, beautiful?" He said trying to both understand and calm me down. Danny followed my gaze and saw Brandon.
"It's Brandon.." I couldn't get myself distracted from the hurt and anger in Brandon's eyes.
"What's up with him then?"
"I don't know." A tear escaped from my eyes.
"Hey, look at me." He whispered. I nodded and found myself able to look at him. He gave me a small smile and wiped my tear away. His hands hold my cheeks. I took a hold of his wrists and rested my forehead on his. My thumbs rubbed his wrists, trying to calm myself down and assuring him that I'm okay. "You can tell me everything."
I nodded slowly. I thought about it for a few moments. I decided to explain.
So, I explained everything. How Sarah had told me about Brandon in class after she saw him smile at me. How we cried in class because of his story. How Clark took me and him out for ice cream. And how we kissed.
By the time I finished I was crying. Danny wiped all my tears away. "Shhh.." He tried to calm me down. I calmed down under his touch. "What now?" He asked.
"I don't know." I whispered, unable to talk without my voice cracking. He pulled me in for a hug.
"I think you should talk to him."
"You're probably right." I sighed.
"Come on." He pulled back from the hug. He reached for my hand and intertwined our fingers. I nodded, while looking at the ground. "Hey.." He whispered. I looked up. He smiled at me and planted a kiss on my cheek. My nerves disappeared at his touch, but returned as he pulled away.
We walked over to Brandon. Before we reached him, Danny bent over and whispered in my ear. "I'll wait in the car. If anything's wrong, just give me a shout and I'll be here." And with that, he took of in another direction. My hand turned cold from the loss of Danny's warmth, but the coldness was soon replaced by shaking and sweat as I felt a suffocating lump form in my throat.
Brandon was looking at me. Angrily. The lump in my throat grew, till the point where I was literally lacking air in my lungs. I tried to swallow it away, but ended up nearly chocking myself. My eye sight went blurry from the coughing, but not so blurry that I couldn't see the change in his eyes. He looked concerned, and a little guilty. He rushed over to my side. He took my arm and dragged me to a nearby bench.
"Here. Drink some water." The words left his mouth calmly, but his eyes and body didn't seem so calm. He was panicking. I drank some water and tried to swallow the lump again. It worked.
"Th-Thanks.." He smiled, let out a relieved sigh and sat down next to me all at the same time.
"Well, that was scary." He shook his head, looking in the distance. He was talking to himself.
"Uhm.. Brandon.." I looked at my hands. I glanced up to his face, while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. He wasn't looking at me. My hands drew my attention to them again. I tried to calm myself down.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Why am I stressing so much? This is not scary.
Right?
No, it isn't. Focus, Jordan.
I looked up, but this time I was more determined. "Brandon." I said, my voice forcing him to look at me. His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to read my blank face. As it slowly became clear to him that he couldn't, his eyes turned dark until they were almost black.
