Just a Smile

I'm not very good at interacting with People. I don't think that I'm antisocial or anything. It's just that i was always on the shy Side as a Human. There is just something that holds me back from a good Conversation with a Stranger.
But i do believe, that at least once in your Life, you will meet someone who renders you plain speechless.
To put it in an easier Way.. That someone will leave an Impression on you.. Something you will remember.
(And no, it's not about Love)

For me it happened on a rainy Friday. I finished Work just a little early and was on my Way back home. At this Time of the Day not many People were on the Streets so it was rather easy to reach my Subway Station in a short Timespan. As always i wait at the End of the Station since the Wagons at the End are pretty empty.
This Time again only a handful of People were already in it.
Normally i space out until i arrive at my Destination but this Time was different. Somehow my Eyes kept focusing on a middle aged Guy in the back of the wagon. He was completely drenched, had Bruises on his Arms and dark Cirlces under his Eyes.
Despite all that he smiled.
It wasn't a very big Smile but somehow it felt really reassuring. He must have noticed that i glanced at him from Time to Time. But he didn't say anything, which i was very thankful for. In the End my Curiousity was too strong and i walked up to him and asked him why he's smiling despite looking miserable. The Things he told me were all sad and nothing good was in it. I think i don't have to mention that i was more confused than ever. So i was asking again why he's smiling when was experiencing so many unfortunate Things.
I don't think i will ever forget what he told me.
He told me that Life isn't always fair and even if everything goes wrong you should never lose your Smile, since that's the one Thing nobody can take from you. You can share it and it helps you recover gradually.
We talked a bit more until we arrived at the next Station where he had to leave. When he left the Train he turned around again and smiled, this time a bit more than before.
As the Door from the Train closed i could see my Reflection. I could see a faint Smile on my Face.
