Song of the Chapter- Gold Steps, Neck Deep

It had been a few weeks since the night Eva was diagnosed and Pete had to talk to her. Slowly, Eva started seeing improvement in her mood and ability to function. They were subtle, but it was evident she felt better. Sarah and Brendon were ecstatic and hopeful. The more she got use to her medications and the things that bothered her, the more they got to know their daughter. They'd announced the new addition to the family two weeks ago, getting almost all positive feedback. Eva walked down the stairs on a Saturday morning to be met by her parents sitting at the counter drinking coffee.

"Morning," she announced happily as she poured herself a mug of coffee. The three exchanged pleasantries before Brendon brought up a topic that scared Eva a bit. "So, sweetie. We have to talk about school." She looked up frantically, her eyes wide with fear. "Please, no we don't." Brendon shook his head and laughed a bit at her reaction before getting up and hugging her into his chest. "I promise, you're enrolled in an amazing school. Their music program is to die for, and half your classes are music based in your schedule. Plus, we're going on tour soon so you don't have too much time there. I promise, you'll love it." Her blue hair bobbed in the man's chest as she slowly accepted her fate. She'd start Monday, and it was way too soon. Not too long after the announcement, Fall Out Boy and twenty one pilots barged through the Urie's front door, the rest of Panic! following suite.

"Pete! Help! Their sending me to school!" Eva yelled as she jumped in his arms and hugged him. Pete faked a gasp after putting her down, saying "How could they?" The two laughed and the teen rolled her eyes before going to hug the rest of her weird family. Josh and Tyler were last, the both of them pulling her into a hug at once. "I missed you guys the most," she laughed, "but don't tell them that" she finished, looking over to the now offended band members in her living room. Eva just laughed more and shook her head. Sarah took her out not too long after for school supplies and clothes shopping. It took a few hours and Eva was exhausted by the time she got back, falling asleep on the couch while lying across Brendon, Patrick, and Joe's laps. Joe decided to be the one who'd take her up to her room. He tucked her in and said goodnight.

Eva's alarm blared through the room as her eyes jolted open and she realized it was Monday. It was her first day of school. She rolled tiredly from bed and walked to the connected bathroom, stripping of her sleep clothes and jumping quickly in the shower. Eva's anxiety was full blown today, her hands heavy and numb and her thoughts jumbled up. She just hoped everything would be alright, because that's all she could do under the warm stream of water.

Soon, her hair was brushed out and curled to reasonable puffiness as she threw light make up on. Eva didn't really like make up. She never looked like herself and it kinda of scared her knowing her identity could be so easily taken away. But, in any case, Eva shook the thoughts and grabbed the backpack from her desk and checked it. Once she knew she had everything, all that was left was her outfit. She dug through her jeans, picking up light grey ones with rips along the knees and one thigh. For shirts, she chose an over-sized crew neck that had a twenty one pilots lyric embroidered across it. Her feet slid into red Keds as she walked down the stairs and met Brendon at the kitchen counter.

"Ready?" he asked, knowing today was going to be hard for her. Eva could only shake her head a bit as she leaned into Brendon and sighed deeply. "I'm scared, Dad." He understood completely, squeezing her tightly before letting go of her in his side grip. "I know, but this will all be okay. Nothing even close to as bad as what you think will happen will actually take place, okay? That's just the anxiety." The girl nodded, feeling her curly hair bounce. Brendon watched his daughter place her medication in her mouth gently and sip the water from the glass on the counter and try to breathe. Her makeup was heavy and unlike her, and she seemed so unhappy today. "Dad?" she asked, looking up and meeting his gaze. "Could we play before we go?" The man nodded energetically and led her to the studio, handing her her own guitar before grabbing his. Brendon sat in his desk chair while Eva chose the floor, leaning against the wall. "You can pick," she said to him, absentmindedly strumming. Brendon automatically plucked the chords for his own song. The girl laughed a bit before joking, "How do you get away with being so full of yourself?" Brendon only smiled and Eva joined in the playing.
