my best friend was a siren, she pulled men in with her eyes and bitchy attitude. they fall for her while she waits for them to fall. and when they do she cries for she is still looking for the person to break
the curse she has been trapped under for years. her dark eyes filled with sorrow that us humans could never understand, she is so alone for something so beautiful. she once was so naive to think that she had
found him, he had swept her off her feet and brought her on land to finally stand on the legs she had been wishing for her whole life, but it had been a lie. he dropped her right back into the icy cold water
and watched her sink into nothing. letting the waves roll over her and take her body. many had tried to find her to pick her apart and hold all of her secrets, but she had killed them before they could touch
her. and then we found each other, she was slowing crawling up the beach, pain clearly pouring out of her, and begging the ocean to give her her legs. i had helped her and her tail had turned into legs, but letting go turned her back.
both of us had no clue what would come of us or how much it would hurt to let go. i told her that i had thought her tail was quite amazing and i had no clue why she had given it up and her in turn said 'of course you wouldn't you have no idea that those scales are scares.'
finally the both of us had gotten off the beach, my sun set yellow hoodie covering her. the stars had started to filter through the sky, the ocean remaining as quite has it was prior to her leaving it. part of me was scared that the ocean would sense that it has lost and would pull my new friend away from me, i had been so alone wandering in the dark trying to find something. a thing inside me pulling me to the beach that night, some may call it fate and maybe i was one of those people. i really didn't and still don't know, all i do know is that i was happy.
her dark hands were ice cold, "are you alright?" looking into her eyes strangely seeing the ocean in them. i believe in most cases, if it hadn't been me who found this girl she would be shipped away. not that i could understand why anyone would do something to such a beautiful creature. and there she sat without saying a word her blueish pink lips trembling, her hair dripping water off of it and it curling up at the ends, the hoodie hopefully kept her warm as i drove us home. the sun setting behind painting the sky and the ocean not having a care in the world, letting us drive off in peace. nothing more.
mom hadn't expected me to bring home a girl especially not one who was mostly naked. which was funny in the way it was sad as she never cared what i did, all i ever got from her was 'yeah sure honey.' but she must have felt the same thing that i had, something in the air shifting our minds to do what it wants.
"who is this?" is the first thing that comes out of her mouth, the first time i think i've ever seen her make the angry mom face. i want to shrug at the question as i usually do but i can tell it's not the time. the girl's eyes go wide realizing something, i wonder if it will ever pass her lips, as i am looking at her
i can tell that not only are her lips trembling but so are her legs, her whole body actually.
"mom, we don't have time to talk about this, can we please get her some clean clothes and food before you start?" a harsh tone had come from me but i couldn't help it, i felt as if this was more important then being in trouble. she for once listens and goes upstairs.
"i don't know who you are or what just happened but i promise that i will help anyway, you let me." i smiled at her hoping to get a reaction but nothing she just slowly nods her head and stares off into nothing. the front door was still open causing a breeze, and even though it was warmer this time of year it strangely felt cold and hard. mom runs back down in time to break my train of thought before i could think of anything else to do.
"here sweetheart i found the warmest clothes i could." she hands them to the girl along with a towel and rushes her off into the bathroom.
"is now a good time to talk about this stranger you decided to bring into our house?" i wish i could say no, push off all of the questions until i could figure out what was going on.
"i don't know mom, i saw her washed up on the beach i couldn't be sure if she was hurt or dead."
"and what about calling the police young lady?" to what would be my mom's suprise i did contemplate calling the police but i wasn't even sure what she was yet.
"they would have just shipped her off to a homeless shelter and who even knows what goes on in those places, just let her stay here at least until she gets on her feet." the argument was over as the
girl has walked out of the bathroom, the door creaking as she followed it.
"i could leave, i-i am s-sorry for the intrusion." with that and me giving my mom a dirty look, the girl was staying. whatever misgivingings my mother had with the girl vanished as she was staying
in my room, a blowup mattress placed onto my floor covered with the heavest blankets we could find.
the girl was once again quiet and facing away from me. i wonder what thoughts moved through her head, not that i believed she'd tell me about it. what if a part of her wanted to stay in the ocean
being to afraid of the unknown? all i had were questions and no such answers existed as far as i could tell. thanks for nothing goggle. my blankets were wrapped tightly around me grounding me to earth and holding me
from flying off into space with my thoughts. both of our soft breathing filled my room at least letting me know she was alive and most likely having her thoughts run loose in the dark of night as well. the blow up mattress crunching
beneath the girl warned me that she's moving. "i wanted to thank you, for what you did and are doing." she says strangely as if trying words for the first time, she sits up finally looking at me. "happy to help." i said also sitting up, trying to find her in the darkness, as it floated around us. we each wait for the other to make a move, but only silence stayed. my eyes became heavy and i guess hers did as well for a couple minutes flew by and her snoring was the only sound to be heard.
