Chapter One:

He has been taught one thing, one thing beyond loving and caring. He has been taught to protect what’s his. Whatever, whether worth it or not – protect it. That’s what he was taught and he learnt it, he sank into a protection shield to whatever he owned – whether it was a girl, brother, family, wallet, house or business.

Whether he loved or cared for it or not – he was protective of it. At the age of ten he learnt basic boxing and karate and ever-since then no one touched anything of his – not even his books.

But that was all I heard, luckily I never came across him nor shared any class to see his protectiveness. But apparently being a player his recent eye was on Lindsey – Jake’s girl.

“Jess!” I was brought back to life. “Stop Jake!”

“What is he doing?” I asked frowning.

“He went to talk to Jason,” Panic rushed through her voice leaving me confused.

But within seconds, I was up and following Laura where she led me. Everyone knew, Jake would not stop at anything – the only two people who can stop him is firstly Lindsey and secondly me because I’m his best friend. Inquiring other people we were led into the locker room, where we found a crowd of bored people that circled around something.

This was bad, my hearts pace was heavy and I didn’t know what to do. I stopped dead on my tracks when I saw Lindsey push herself against the pillar as tears streamed down her face. I searched her body for any mark of abuse and there was none – that meant – Jason and beating up Jake.

I fought against the crowd to find myself staring at Jake on the floor, his lips bleeding and his face almost completely bruised. My eyes travelled back to Jason, who was being held by his friends. I threw my bag – not knowing where it landed and sat beside Jake.

My best friend, the guy who had always protected me lay – cold and helpless on the floor. If Jason hit him one more time I was sure Jake’s vision would be blur. Jake squinted at me till he realized who I was, “Jess. It’s okay, go before he hurts you.” Jake pleaded.

“I’m not leaving you,” I said stubbornly as I held his hand and pulled him up. I tugged at him to walk away with me hoping this could end cleanly.

“He should at least say sorry,” I heard a cold – dull – heartless voice.

I turned around to see no one was holding Jason anymore, but that he was compiled and soothing down.

Without glancing at Jake, I questioned. “Why?”

Shocked by my bravery, Jason’s lips curled into a smirk. “He touched my girl.”

“Your girl?” I made sure he noticed my expression. “Last time I checked Lindsey was happily dating Jake till you came along and ‘wanted’ her. So please, next time you steal someone’s girl forcefully – think twice before asking for an apology.”

His jaw clenched, clearly disliking my confidence. I could have walked away but I wasn’t scared off him, so I waited. I waited to be answered by him, “Who the fuck do you think you are?” He questioned aggressively.

“I only think what I am, and that is the principals daughter.” I glared at him one last time till I turned away and walked off. I didn’t even think about Jake, for he could handle himself at the moment. I however had a hard time with anger so it was better I wasn’t near anyone.

Sixth call in ten minutes, “People need to calm the fuck down.”

“Jess, so do you.” Laura brushed her hand over my shoulder trying to calm me down.
