I walked inside the campus, feeling my eyelids heavier than usual. I squinted at the sun, blazing in the sky. I walked around for a few minutes, before I spotted Sophie and Seth sitting on a bench. I walked up to them, keeping my hands in my pockets. I felt like the days weren't getting anymore special whatsoever. Every day somehow became more monotonous than its predecessor.

“Hey guys” I greeted and sat next to Sophie.

“Good morning sunshine!” Seth greeted and patted me on the back. I loved Seth very much, he was a great friend, but he was shallow as a puddle.

“Stop being so happy, it’s morning, people shouldn't be happy at mornings, god!” I grumbled as Sophie and Seth laughed at my lousiness. Oh, god knows how much I hated mornings.

“God, I forgot how much not of a morning person you were” Sophie laughed.

We sat there, talking for another couple of minutes, before Seth got up and said, “Listen guys, I have to leave, I’ve got someone to meet!”

“Yeah, meet. Right” Sophie said sarcastically.

“Oh, shut up” Seth said and left.

We sat there in silence for a few moments before Sophie said “What you up to tonight?”

“Actually, it’s my night off” I said brightly, finally having a night off. I looked her in the eyes. Her blonde sandy hair flowed from both sided of her face. Her bright blue eyes shone at me from her heart-shaped face. Those eyes, they reminded me of someone.

“Oh, I see”, Sophie said, fidgeting with her fingers. She looked nervous, almost excited… was she blushing or was it my imagination?

“Soph, is everything cool?” I asked, a bit worried now. I tried putting a comforting hand on her thigh, but she seemed to flinch from my touch.

“Yeah, sorry. I was just wondering, since you don’t do anything tonight. Would you like to go out?” she asked nervously, keeping her eyes on her hands.

I was a bit shocked. I didn’t know what to say. Was it like just for fun like always or something bigger than that? If it was just another chilling out, she wouldn’t be that nervous. I’ve never seen Sophie nervous before, she’s just not that kind of person. She’s always so sure of herself.

“What, you mean like in a date, Sophie?” I asked, looking at her, searching for any clues to what she was getting at.

“Mhhm” she mumbled, finally looking at me. Her eyes were hopeful, they were shy. They held something I’ve never seen in Sophie’s eyes before.

What do I do now? I couldn’t say no to her, I’d feel terrible. But from the other hand, I couldn’t mislead her into thinking that we could actually become something.

But then again, why wouldn’t we? She doesn’t know I’m gay, I just told her I’m on my night off. I had no excuse to say no to that.

“Yeah, sure” I said, without thinking about it that much. I couldn’t keep her waiting; she’d think I’m making up an excuse or something.

“Great,” she said, smiling at me and getting up, “I’ll text you later”.

And with that said she left, hurrying off like her life depends on it. She left me sitting there, astounded. Trying to think what just happened, and what I just led myself into.

“Oh my, that’s big, man! It’s huge! Now we finally know why she rejected all of these guys before!!” Seth said enthusiastically, while I waved my hand in disposal. We walked through campus a few hours later, on our way out to my car.
