It had been several hours since the night had fallen over the Hogwarts castle. The Gryffindor common room was empty except for the four young boys still studying. Two of them were lying on the couch, one almost asleep on the other's laps who was focused on the book he was reading. The two others were writing, sitting by a table.

The blond one, who's named Peter, seemed having troubles with his potion's work and was often looking over his friend James' shoulder. On the couch, the brown-haired boy named Remus was slowly turning the pages of his defense against the Dark Arts' book. The rest of the time, his right hand was playing with Sirius' hair.

It was almost midnight but it was the only free time the boys had to study. The common room was all theirs and there was no first year student talking and laughing loudly. Everyone was quiet and they had all the night to do the work they hadn't done yet.

But tonight they were working even harder than usual. The O.W.L.S. were getting close and the teachers seemed to not care at all and had given them more work than ever all week long. James and Peter were finishing only now the 40 cm of parchment Professor Shlughorn gave for the following day while Sirius and Remus were learning (or supposed to learn in the case of Sirius) all of the vampire.

Suddenly James dropped his quill on the table, making little dusts of ink on his parchment. Peter jumped of surprise while the boy wearing glasses laid down on his chair.

"Are you fucking serious?!?" James exclaimed, talking to his parchment as if it was professor Shlughorn himself.

"Yes" Remus said without thinking.

When he realized what he had just said he covered his mouth with his hands but it was already too late. His book fell down on Sirius' head and Sirius opened his eyes, surprised.

"What?!?" James almost shouted.

"What?" asked Sirius who didn't understand anything.

"Did you hear what he had just say?" James asked, pointing a finger towards Remus.

"No, what..."

"No I didn't mean that! Remus tried to explain. I'm tired, I didn't think of..."

"Exactly! You didn't think! That means it's true!»

"What is true?" Sirius asked one more time. "What's going on right now ?"

"Remus just confessed you two were together" Peter explained.

"You did what?!?" Sirius yelled.

"No I didn't!" Remus said at the same time.

Then Sirius realized he was still lying on Remus' legs and that it didn't make their answers realistic. James was actually staring at them and Sirius quickly stood up.

Remus didn't know what to do. By Merlin's bear, why on Earth did he have to say that? Now it appeared clearly that James was talking about his potion's work and did not at all guess about his relationship with Sirius. But the words fell out of his mouth before he could even realize it and now James and Peter were about to discover the secret they had been keeping for half a year. It was mostly Remus' fault if no one was aware of it: he had been so scared of the others' reactions that he had begged Sirius for not telling anyone.

And right now, he was nothing but terrified of what Peter and James might say. What if they rejected him? He knew James would never leave Sirius behind. But after all he had become their friend much later! What if he had to make a choice between Sirius and his friendship with the Marauders? Worse, what if Sirius decided to break up with him because of James?
