C H A P T E R 3 –

Bigby and Snow opened up the gates to the Woodlands and started to walk down the street in the dark of the morning.

“We have to tell Lawrence about his wife. He has to know.” Bigby told Snow.

“You’re right.” Snow agreed. “And… Toad’s a tough… Toad. He can probably handle himself for a couple of hours.”

“He’ll have to.” Said Bigby.

Lawrence’s Apartment

South Bronx

~Early Morning

Bigby and Snow turned the corner and were heading up to Prince Lawrence’s apartment, hopefully were going to get some information of him, and to see if Prince Lawrence was alright; the visual the Magic Mirror showed Bigby made it seem like Prince Lawrence was in trouble. There was a knife around him, with spatters of blood as well.

“I don’t want to stay here longer then we have to, so let’s just pick an approach and stick to it, okay?” Snow raised an eyebrow and chuckled. “Just humor me.”

Bigby looked over at snow, his eyes narrowing. “We’re here to question Lawrence and bump him up on suspect list or cross him off entirely.”

Snow found, but then nodding, noticing that approach was the most logical, even though she didn’t entirely agree. “Okay…” Snow dragged on.

“What is it?” Bigby asked.

“I just… don’t think he did it.” Snow sighed.

Bigby looked Snow in the eyes. “In cases like these isn’t it usually the husband?” Bigby asked her.

”For mundies, maybe. But this is different.” Snow pointed out.

Bigby turned around and walked up the front steps of Lawrence’s apartment, banging on the door. “Lawrence!” Bigby called. “You in there?” When Lawrence didn’t answer, Bigby tried to open the door, but it was locked. “It’s Bigby. I need to talk to you.” Bigby yelled, backing away from the door. Bigby saw one of the windows slightly pulled open, so he yanked it up, pulling it open, climbing inside.

“Guess we’re out of options…” Snow trailed off, looking around the street to see if any cars were coming; they needed to be out of sight and not get caught, they couldn’t abort the mission. “C’mon pull me up.” Snow held her hand out to Bigby, and he took it in his, pulling her in through the window.

As soon as they were inside, Snow had to hold her nose because something had a very foul smell as soon as they entered the apartment.

Bigby looked around the room; there was a blowing fan, a fuzzy television, and a gun on the ground… But as soon as Snow walked around the living room, she noticed Lawrence was laying there slumped over the sofa. He had a pale blue tint on him, blood pouring out of his chest, and flies swarming around him.

“Oh, god…” Snow gasped, putting a hand over her mouth. “We’re too late.” Snow turned to Bigby, talking quickly and quietly in shock. “That makes two Fables dead… We need to figure out what the hell is going on here…” Snow looked back over at the corpse of Lawrence, frowning. “Who would do this to them?” Snow asked Bigby.

Bigby shook his head, his eyes widening. “I don’t know Snow.”

Bigby picked up the knife beside the couch, showing it to Snow. “The mirror showed me this. It’s sharp… and there’s blood on the blade.”
