Chapter 1: A friend-to-be
Roommate Wanted
Those two words brought a small smile to my face as I circled the address in the newspaper. I passed a glance at the clock on the café wall.
9:49 am
A little too early to go look at the house but plenty of time to finish my coffee. I picked up the little coffee cup and continued to read over the article.
Medium size room, a walk-in closet, and its own bathroom; bed, dresser, and desk included. Self-space in the refrigerator. Forest-forest view from the backyard. 250 dollars a month to help with rent and utilities.
The room seemed perfect. And it was in my budget, seemed like dreams come true. All I needed to do was to look at the place and see if I could get the room. And to check the distance to the woods, but from the address, it seemed to be on the edge of town, close to the woods.
I set the paper down as I sit back sighing while pushing my dyed strawberry blonde hair out of my face. Things seemed to be finally looking up for me, after all this time I could finally start that fresh start that I needed. All of the cleaning jobs and waitressing has finally started to pay off. I am finally going to find a home. and within a few months, I'll have access to the money my parents left me.
"Sorry is this seat taken? All the others are full."
I looked up to see a girl about my age with bright blue eyes and jet-black hair in a short pixie cut. But something was different about this girl. She smelt different, I just couldn't place the smell. It was oddly familiar. She smiled as I continued to stare.
"Nope, the seats open," I started looking at my watch, before clearing my throat awkwardly. "I actually was just getting ready to leave," I stood up and started to pack my things into my messages bag.
"I'm sorry I don't mean to scare you away-," she started with a kind smile before I cut her off.
"No, you're not. I have so much to do today and I didn't realize how late it was getting. I really have to get going. I'm going to be looking at an apartment soon," smiling back I turned around bumping into the waitress, who spilled her whole tray of coffee and tea all down my shirt. "Shit I'm so sorry!"
Huffing, the blond-headed waitress turned around not even casting me two glances. "Bitch much?" The blue-eyed girl yelled, staring after the waitress, before rolling her eyes and offering me another smile. "I'm so sorry, I feel as if that was my fault. Here, let me take you back to my place and I'll wash your shirt for you," She offered while handing my napkins. "I know how to get coffee stains out without ruining your clothes. Plus, my place is only about 10 minutes away."
I eyed her uneasily.
Could I trust her?
Yes.
That one word was all I needed to her. The thing inside of me telling me that it was okay. That she was okay.
"Okay," I told her confidently hiking my bag up more and straighten my shoulders back with my head held high. "But only because this shirt is my favorite and I doubt that the motel can get the stains out." With a little laugh and a wave, I smiled at her.
Smiling wider the girl grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the café. "My name's Lilith, by the way. My friends call me Lil. What's yours?" Lilith asked as she stopped at a red Ford Mustang.
"Eloise, but I go by Ellie," I said with a wider smile as I got into the passenger seat, buckling in.
She could be a friend. And everything will be alright. We'll be free with her.
The voice told me.
After the door was closed shut Lilith looked me in the eye. Serious was the only word that could be used to describe her expression. "I know your secret," she whispered before starting the car and driving off.
Leaving me in complete shock.
Praying that it was something else and not what I dreaded what to think what else she could've meant by that.
But the silence from her statement kept ringing in my ears the whole drive.
The voice not saying anything at all to me.
Could the voice be wrong for once?
Was this a trick?
All I have to hold on to was the last words that the voice told me. I could trust her and everything will be alright.
But will it?
