She looked down at the struggling child. His miserable existence reflected the mood of those around him. They were weak.
"I don't know if you'll live much longer, but I guess we could spend a little time together. It always to get to know your relatives before they pass away. Especially when they don't really get a chance to live."

Cami ran her hand against her cousin's tiny chest, tears stinging her eyes as she felt his heartbeat under his skin.
You don't deserve to go through this. You were supposed to meet your big sis. I was supposed to have a little brother. You were gonna have another big sister too.
Everything was supposed to be okay, but it's not. You probably won't be here much longer either. Then there will only be me left. I don't want that to happen.
“I wanna have someone to look forward to. Adults are cool and all, but it'd be nice to have someone to play with, ya know?”
“I wish I could do something more... if only I could just...You're still here so I might as well…”
She attempted to scoop the underdeveloped alien into her arms. Radicles did his best to squirm away from her grasp.
“Don't be scared, Raddy.”
The little guy rolled over once he was within the safety of his nest blankets.Camillia gazed down at Rad, watching him kick around and tremble as if he were still inside his egg.
“It’s okay. I don't wanna hurt ya.”
She gently ran her her index finger though Rad’s soft curls and made her was to his throbbing temple, which pulsed to the beat of his heart.
To her surprise, he pushed her hand toward his mouth and sucked down as hard as he could on her finger as if he were starving. She carefully pried it from the back of his throat to avoid hurting the poor soul.
“I’m sorry, Rad. I don't have any food to give you, let alone know how much you need.”
“There's something else I can offer, but I'm not for sure if you'll like it very much.”
Once again, she made the attempt to pick him up.
Camillia cupped her hands around Rad's backside with her thumbs softly squishing against his tummy. This startled him, causing the alien to squirm beneath her grasp. Instead of escaping once more, the poor child paused in agony wondering where his fate would take him.
