But Still

A little throwback to my fan girl days for this tragic couple.

Siddhant Modi's eyes fluttered open, as realization dawned, he smiled. Today was the day. Today was the start of the rest of his life. His wedding day.

Well his second, but still.

...............................................................................

"Rhiddima hurry up!" Anjali's voice came through the door, resonating around Rhiddima's head. She sped up her efforts, slipping into the deep red bridal lehenga, "ok di!" she shouted back, "ready!" the door burst open and Anjali and Muskaan, who had arrived two days ago, rushed in. Each were armed with large makeup kits, jewelry, etc. ready to make her the most beautiful bride ever, after all, she was getting married. For the second time, but still, it was to the same guy and the first time hadn't gone so well.

...............................................................................

"Siddhant Modi, if you don't get out here right now, I swear!" Nikkita Modi, a very pregnant, moody Nikkita Modi stood fuming outside her brother-in-law's bedroom. The door opened, Abhi's worried face peered out, "we're almost done I swear!" he said reassuringly, just like he had ten times in the past hour. He was worried not only for Nikki and his unborn child, but for Sid, whom he feared at this rate would be murdered before he had a chance to get married; again, but still.

Abhi closed the door and turned to the nervous groom, who fretted as he paced back and forth, "you know," he began, "this is really not the time to-"

"I DON'T HAVE COLD FEET!" Sid shouted out.

"Ok, ok, sorry. Can we leave please?"

He ushered Sid out, Nikki's frown turned into a large grin as she reached out to pinch Sid's cheeks. Sid shrunk away; his brother's strong chest kept him in place as his bhabhi pinched to her heart's delight, oohing and aahing like he was a baby.

...............................................................................

Rhiddima stood in front of the mirror checking herself out; did this dupatta make her look fat? She took deep breaths, trying to calm herself down. People thought the first time around was tough? THIS was excruciating! She started pacing again when the door flew open and a squealing Nikki rushed in.

"RHIDZY!!! You're going to be a Modi! Again, but still!"

"I know!" Rhiddima squealed back, the two women clasped hands, bouncing like school girls.

"O god. O GOD! I'm getting married!" Rhidzy gasped, "OH. MY. GOD."

Muskaan spoke up, "shouldn't you know what to expect, I mean you guys-"

"It's different!" Rhiddima screeched, panicking. She started pacing again, "Omygod Omygod Omygod!"

...............................................................................

Siddhant frowned at the priest, couldn't he chant faster? He head Abhi and Yuvi snicker, he looked up sharply, daring them to say anything. Finally, the first of a series of magical words, "kanya ko bulaiye."

Siddhant looked towards the house in anticipation, but he was still bowled away. His breath caught in his throat as Nikki, Anjali, and Muskaan escorted Rhiddima towards the mandap; at least he thought it was Nikki, Anjali, and Muskaan, he couldn't really tell everything around her seemed a blur. His eyes didn't leave her for a moment, last time he'd practically dragged her here; this time she was doing it herself, he felt a surge of pride in his heart.

Another round of snickers erupted as the girls caught sight of Sid's "totally fida" look. An embarrassed Sid looked away, but for a second his eyes met Rhiddima's as she looked up. And that was enough to last him through the whole, ridiculously long ceremony. He was still impatient, the panditjee was really slow, but he comforted himself, taking frequent reassuring deep breaths that earned more laughs and a giggle from Rhiddima.

  ...............................................................................

Finally it was over, the whole shebang was over! They'd finally gotten married and she was his. Again, but still.

He knew he would never live it down, but at this point he really didn't care. As soon as they were both on their feet he grabbed her into a hug. Relieved sighs escaped both their lips as a chorus of whoops, hoots, and other such noises erupted. They pulled back, Siddhant unfazed as he met everyone's eyes, her hand securely in his. Rhiddima's eyes were lowered, but couldn't really stop herself from grinning.

...............................................................................

After everything else has finished they were finally alone in the car. Well, there was Abhi and Nikki, assigned with getting them home, but they made it a point to look anywhere but the back seat. Siddhant pulled Rhiddima into another hug; reassuring himself it was all real, not just another dream. Rhiddima secretly pinched herself, yup, still here. Still in the car. Still in Siddhant's arms. Yes! She cheered silently, as they drove off into the sunset.

Well not really, there's no sunset at 1 pm, but still.
